Lund Track and Field Off to a Strong Start to Season

The Lund High tracksters have jumped into spring with two meets. March 8 they traveled to Laughlin for a meet of 12 small schools. For the girls seniors Ciera Jensen and Tori Montoya were the top performers. Jensen finished second in the 200-meter (29.66 seconds). Montoya finished third in the shot (27’4”) and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (1:01.89). Sophomore Kelsea Reid finished fourth in the 200-meter run (30.33) and fifth in the 100-meter (14.83). The girls relay teams (Reid, Jensen, McCall Harness, Sammi Cornelison) finished second in the 4 x 100 (58:27) and third in the 4 x 200 (2:11.27). Others competing were: Tatum Hendrix 800-meter (3:16), Alondra Dowl 800-meter (3:18), Cornelison LJ (11’8” sixth), Harness 200-meter (30.64 fifth). As a team the girls scored 54 points and finished fifth among the 12 schools.

For the boys, senior James Harris scored 27 of the teams 40 points for seventh place of the 12 teams. Harris won the 300-meter hurdles (45.52), finished secibd in both the 100H (18.62) and LJ (18’1”) and eighth in the triple jump (35’1”). Senior Derick Rimington added to the team points by finishing 5th in the shot (33’3”) and eighth in the discus (87’0”). Junior Brandon Creason rounded off the team points with a 2nd place finish in the 800m (2:23.26). Others competing: Tristen Egbert discus (73’3), shot (30’3”). Wyatt Christensen shot (25’1”), discus (62’8”) and 4 x 100 (Creason, Seth Hooley, Harris, Skyler Madsen) 49.77.

On March 15 the Mustangs competed in a large 21 school (14 were Div. I, formerly 4A) meet at Faith Lutheran. Senior Emily Cornelison showed that school size is no matter as she captured first place in both the discus (99’5”) and shot with a PR 36’8.5”. Other results: Ciera Jensen 1:09.99 (400-meter), 30.93 (200-meter). Kelsea Reid 30.34 (200-meter), 14.45 (100m), Victoria Montoya 28’5” (shot), 4 x 100 relay 58.84 and 4 x 200 2:03.41 (Reid, Jensen, S. Cornelison, Harness), 4 x 400 5:28.83 (Harness, Montoya, Dowl, Hendrix).

For the boys Harris had the best finish with a 12th place in the 300-meter hurdles and a personal record of 45.36, and a 14th place finish in the 100H (19.09). Other results: Rimington shot (33’6.5”), discus (90’5”). Egbert shot (33’5”), discus (80’7”). Christensen discus (57’9”), shot (26’2”). Creason 800-meters (2:23). Hooley 200-meters(26.77). Madsen 200-meter (27.22). 4 x 100 relay 49.77 (Harris, Madsen, Hooley, Creason).
