An overthrow by the catcher at third base allowed Lincoln County’s Mike Wood to come home with the winning run in the eighth inning as Lincoln edged White Pine 6-5 in Panaca.
The Lynx had taken a 5-0 lead early in the non-league game, only to watch White Pine (2-16) come back to tie in the middle innings, and the game went into extra innings.
Then in the bottom of the eighth coach Raymond Wadsworth said, “We had a guy on second with two outs, tried to be aggressive on the bases, had the man steal third, and the catcher overthrew at third.”
Colton Johnson went the distance on the mound for Lincoln (8-7), allowing six hits and striking out 13.
While Pine coach Jim Sattler said it was, ”The best game we have played all year, we actually came from behind and we haven’t done that all year. We showed some improvement. We played pretty good defense, and had some good pitching in the middle of the game. We hit the ball when we had guys on base, which we have not been real consistent with this season.”
The second game was a JV contest, which Lincoln won also 9-2.
