Girls soccer wins big, drops two close matches

The White Pine High girls soccer team started its season in dominating fashion with a 6-0 win against West Wendover before falling to Spring Creek (2-0) and Lowry (2-1) last weekend.

“Against Wendover we were able to utilize the ball up top in terms of setting up plays with oru midfielders and our forwards,” coach Rebecca Bath said. “It’s the way we played against Wendover, we were a stronger team during that match.”

The Ladycats saw goals from Lucy Fullmer, Jane Murdock, Tainui Brewster, Brittany Bennett and Hazel Quinones.

“It’s great that we had different girls score and get that magic touch and get it in the net, so that was really promising,” Bath said.

While the defense played tough against Spring Creek and Lowry, better depth and fatigue plagued White Pine in its losses, Bath said.

“We gave it our all,” Bath said. “Our defense just worked their tails off but we were dogged tired and you could tell we need more bodies and needed more girls.”

The Ladycats get a week off before hosting Yerington and Whittell on Sept. 13 and 14.

“It’s good to see where the girls are playing at in the early matches, but it’s nice to bring them back and work on specifics and different strategies,” Bath said. “We have some time to do some maintenance work and get us game ready.”
