White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Oct. 1-6. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies. 

October 1

Report of a dog problem in Ely — Officer contacted the owner of the barking dog and advised her of the complaint.

Report of an illegally parked vehicle in Ely — The owner of the vehicle was contacted and the vehicle will be removed.

Report of a bad check in Ely — The check was collected and turned over to the District Attorneys Office for collections.

Report of a suspicious subject in Ely — The individual was contacted and no crime was reported.

Report of a civil problem in Ely — Reporting party had moved out of an apartment several weeks ago, but had left some items behind. The remaining renters of the apartment threw the rest of the reporting parties items in the garbage. The reporting party was advised it was a civil problem.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that a subject was causing a disturbance at a local bar. The individual was contacted and trespassed from the establishment.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer located the vehicle and reported that no crime had occurred.

New bookings — None.

October 2

Report of a custody problem in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved and the problems were worked out.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

Report of a violation of a court order in Ely — Reporting party stated that she has been receiving telephone calls from an individual whom she has a protective order against. Officer is attempting to contact the caller. Investigation continues.

Report of truancy in Ely — The juvenile was issued a citation for truancy and a report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of vandalism — Reporting party stated that someone had damaged the bathroom at the Ruth Park. The incident was documented.

Report of property damage in Ely — Reporting party stated that his fence had been hit by a vehicle. Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and he made arraignments to repair the fence.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that money was missing from her place of employment. Investigation continues.

Report of an agency assist in Ely — Officer assisted the Nevada Highway Patrol on a juvenile that was a runaway from Utah.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into her garage and stole several items.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into his home and stole his keys. The incident was documented.

Report of a dog problem — Reporting party stated that his neighbor’s dogs were running loose and they ran at him in a aggressive manner. Officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised him to keep them restrained.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and reported that no crime had occurred.

Report of an accident in Ely — Reporting party stated that while his vehicle was parked in front of his residence another vehicle had struck it. The striking vehicle had fled the scene.

Report of a disturbance — Officer contacted the occupants of the home and advised them to turn the music down.

October 3

Report of a citizen assist — Officer assisted a motorist whose vehicle had run out of gas.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that when he checked out of a local motel the owner of the motel yelled at him. No other problems were reported.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that her daughter quit a high school team and the coach of the team was refusing to give the daughter back some clothes that belonged to her. Contact with the coach will be conducted.

Report of a disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the occupant of the home and advised him to turn the TV down.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that William N. Yapp age 62 of Newman Lake, WA. was arrested on a Jackpot NV warrant for contempt of court.

Report of a reckless driver in Ely — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and advised him of the complaint.

Report of a deer caught in a fence — The deer was freed from the fence.

Report of an ambulance assist — Officer assisted the Ely ambulance with an infant that was chocking. The item that was chocking the infant was dislodged. The infant was transported to E.R.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The individuals were contacted and were fine.

New bookings — William Yapp, Jackpot NV warrant, contempt of court, bail $270.

October 4

Report of a death in Ely — Officer reported that Larry Leaders age 41 of Ely died at his residence. Investigation into the cause of death continues.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into his home and removed some money.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen a firearm, which he kept in his vehicle.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of an accident — Steven Rigby of Malta, ID. was operating a vehicle on US 6 when he struck a elk. An accident report was completed.

Report of a dog problem in Ely — Reporting party stated that he had struck a dog with his vehicle. The owner of the dog was located and the dog was returned to him.

Report of a suspicious subject — Reporting party stated that she observed someone enter into her neighbors yard. The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

October 5

Report of a man with a gun — Reporting party stated that he was at a friend’s home with several people when one of them pointed a gun at him. Officer investigated the incident and reported that the accusation had been made up. Officer arrested Jesse Baca age 32 of Ely. Baca was arrested for obstructing a police officer, reckless driving and false reporting of a crime.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that her boyfriend had stolen a blanket from her residence. Investigation continues.

Report of vandalism — Reporting party stated that someone had thrown a rock through a window at his residence.

Report of a suspicious vehicle in Ely — Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and advised him to remove it from the alleyway.

Report of a search and rescue assist — Search and Rescue was called out for a hunter who had injured herself while hiking in the Diamond Mountains.

Report of harassment in Ely — Reporting party stated that his daughter was receiving unwanted telephone calls from an individual. The daughter lives out of state. The reporting party was advised to have her call her local police.

Report of a burglary — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into her vehicle and removed some property.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved who blamed each other for the disturbance. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The individual was contacted and taken to E.R. by ambulance.

New bookings — Jesse Baca, obstructing a police officer, reckless driving and false reporting of a crime, bail $1,850.

October 6

Report of a parking problem in Ely — The owner of the vehicle was contacted and advised to move his vehicle.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Officer patrolled the area, but the individuals were not located.

Report of a motorist assist — Officer assisted a motorist who ran out of gas.

Report of a dog problem — Reporting party stated that her neighbor’s dog was running at large. Officer reported that the owner of the dog will be issued a citation when located.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that some keys were missing from her home. The reporting party believes they were stolen.

Report of an accident — Annie Gleave of McGill was operating a vehicle and was backing up. She failed to see her other vehicle behind her and backed into it. An accident report was completed.

Report of a dog problem — Reporting party stated that her neighbor’s dog had gotten into her garbage. Officer secured the dogs and contact with the owner will be made when he returns to the area.

Report of an intoxicated pedestrian in Ely — Officer contacted the individual who was sleeping on a sidewalk. The individual was helped to his residence.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the individuals involved who were involved in a verbal argument. The parties separated for the night.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer received a report of an intoxicated individual attempting to enter into a residence that doesn’t belong to him. Officer identified the individual as Gary M. Ware Jr. age 31 of Ruth. Ware was arrested for trespassing, resisting a public officer and injury to property.

Report of a welfare check — The aircraft was located and was fine.

New bookings — Gary M. Ware Jr., trespassing, resisting a public officer, and injury to property, bail $1,065; Joe L. Goldsmith, serving time; Tina L. Griffin, serving time; Jon M. Shaw, serving time; Mark L. West, DUI, first offense, basic speed and driving suspended, bail $2,055, arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
