White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Oct. 7-14. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies. 

October 7

Report of truancy in Ely — The juvenile was issued a citation for truancy and a report was sent to Juvenile probation.

Report of an arrest in Ely — Officer reported that Daniel D. Griffin age 48 of Ely was arrested on a Ely Municipal Court warrant, for contempt of court.

Report of an accident — Chad Atkin of Las Vegas, NV was operating a vehicle on Duck Creek Road and struck a cow. A report was completed.

Report of a juvenile problem in Ely — Officer spoke to a juvenile who was having problem keeping his grandparent rules.

Report of a dog attack — Reporting party stated that his dog was attacked by a stray dog. The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that her granddaughter keeps moving the furniture around in her home. Both parties involved were spoke to and advised to work out their problems without law enforcement involvement.

Report of suspicious circumstances in Ely — The area was patrolled, but no unusual activity was located.

Report of a disturbance in Ely — Office contacted the individuals involved and advised them to turn their music down.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen several pallets form his place of business.

Report of an attempted sexual assault in Ely — Reporting party stated that while on a date with a friend the friend tried to sexually assault her. Officers investigated the incident and arrested Ruber Herrera age 44 of Ely. Herrera was arrested for battery, attempted sexual assault, false imprisonment, and open and gross lewdness.

New bookings — Daniel D. Griffin, Ely Municipal Court warrant, contempt of court, bail $455; Ruben Herrera, battery, attempted sexual assault, false imprisonment, and open and gross lewdness, bail $50,000.

October 8

Report of an arrest in Ely — Officer reported that Brittany S. Slight age 28 of Ely was arrested for driving without a valid license.

Report of suspicious subjects — Officer patrolled the area, but no one was located.

Report of a juvenile problem in Ely — Officer assisted school officials with a disruptive juvenile. The juvenile was released to her parent.

Report of a suspicious subject in Ely — Officer contacted the individuals and reported that they were walkaways from the Ely Conservation Camp. The individuals were detained and later released back to the custody of Nevada Department of Corrections.

Report of an accident in Ely — Reporting party stated that while her vehicle was parked at a local gas station another vehicle sideswiped it. The striking vehicle then fled the scene.

Report of a trespasser in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual has been living on her property in a camper trailer and she wants him removed from her property. Officer is attempting to locate the individual to advise him.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and he was fine.

Report of a death — Officer reported that Albert R. Genz age 81 of Baker died of natural causes at his residence.

Report of a subject throwing trash from a vehicle in Ely — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a child not in a child seat in Ely— The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a possible drunk driver — The operator of the vehicle was contacted, but he was not impaired. He was warned about his driving behavior.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that a friend of hers is stalking her. Officer contacted the friend and advised him to leave the reporting party alone.

New bookings — Brittany S. Slight, driving without valid license, bail $245; Thomas Holcomb, hold for Department of Correction; Michael Schwarz, hold for Department of Corrections.

October 9

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a GPS unit had been stolen form his place of employment.

Report of an accident in Ely — Joseph Leclair of Las Vegas was operating a vehicle towing a trailer. As he pulled his trailer into a service station the trailer struck a parked vehicle. The parked vehicle was owned by Shawn Bloomer of Las Vegas. An accident report was completed.

Report of an abandoned vehicle — Officer checked on the vehicle and reported that no crime had occurred.

Report of an accident in Ely — Benjamin Oconnell of Seattle, WA was operating a vehicle traveling on Great Basin Blvd. He made a right hand turn and failed to yield to a vehicle being operated by Garret Swisher of Ely. An accident report was completed and Oconnell was issued a citation for unsafe lane change.

Repot of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a death — Officer reported that Edward J. Bell age 73 of Ely died at his residence of natural causes.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that during their investigation John L. Trujillo age 48 of Ely was arrested for resisting a public officer.

October 10

Report of a welfare check — The individuals were contacted and were fine.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The individual had been hospitalized.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a fraud in Ely — Reporting party received a text message indicating she needed to respond with personal information or her credit card would be cancelled. She provided the information. The reporting party was advised it was a scam.

Report of possible child abuse in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that the incident was unfounded.

Report of a violation of a court order — Officer investigated the violation and reported that the order had not been served.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had been involved in a verbal argument. The parties separated for the night.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that while she was at a local bar an individual was trying to get her to fight. The individual was asked to leave by the owner of the bar. The incident was documented.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted one of the parties involved who stated that she had been battered by her husband. Officers are attempting to locate the husband.

Report of a barking dog in Ely — Officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised him of the complaint.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that a friend stayed at her home and during his visit he stole several rings. Officer reported that the individual was identified as Jeremy D. Walters age 32 of Ely. Walters was arrested for Grand Larceny.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — The operator of the vehicle was contacted and no crime had occurred.

Report of threats in Ely — Reporting party stated that she was receiving unwanted telephone calls. The caller was contacted and advised to stop his contact with the reporting party.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and he was issued a warning about his driving behavior.

New bookings — Jeremy D. Walters, grand larceny, bail $10,000; Kevin L. Kennedy, Ely Justice Court warrants, contempt of court, bail $1,590.

October 11 

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into her home and stole her medication.

Report of an accident in Ely — Jonathan Crepeau of Ely was operating a vehicle. He failed to maintain control of his vehicle and struck a stop sign. A report was completed.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen a license plate off her vehicle.

Report of a suspicious subject in Ely — The individual was contacted and no crime had occurred.

Report of a subject with a gun in Ely — Officer contacted the individual who was playing with a air soft gun.

Report of a broken window — Reporting party stated that someone had broken a window on her residence.

Report of an agency assist — Officer assisted the Ely Forest Service Ranger on a possible methamphetamine production area.

Report of an accident in Ely — John Countryman of Ely was operating a vehicle and was making a turn into a private drive. DJ Seely of Ely was operating a vehicle behind Countryman. Seely failed to stop behind Countryman and collided into the rear of his vehicle. Seely was issued a citation for due care and an accident report was completed.

Report of a fatal accident — Officer reported that Maria Belen Tollez-DeAyala age 54 of Baker, NV died in a single motor vehicle accident on US 6. The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Report of a suicide in Ely — Officer reported that Robert L. Spear of Edmonds WA died at a local motel due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Report of a missing person — Officer received a report of an elderly female who went for a walk and hadn’t returned. Search and Rescue was called out and will continue the search.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

Report of threats in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual was challenging her to fight. The incident was documented.

Report of a sheep in the roadway — The area was patrolled, but no sheep were located.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that a friend stayed at her home and she believes he took pictures of her while she was showering. Investigation continues.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer contacted the juvenile and her parent and the problem was worked out.

Report of a suicidal subject — Officer reported that the individual was located in another jurisdiction and was arrested for DUI.

New bookings — Shane T. Lawson, Clear Creek County warrant, bail $3,000; Ericson D. Skye, serving time.

October 12 

Report of a dog problem — Officer received a report of an abandoned dog. Officer reported that the dogs belonged to sheepherders in the area.

Report of phone harassment in Ely — Reporting party stated that a family member keeps calling her and threatening her. The caller is from out of state. The incident was documented.

Report of a dog at large in Ely — The owner of the dog was contacted and advised to keep the dog contained.

Report of a juvenile disturbance in Ely — The area was patrolled, but no juveniles were located.

Report of several suspicious subjects in Ely — Officer contacted the subjects and reported that no crime had occurred.

Report of a subject disturbing the peace — Officer contacted the subject who was continuously revving his engine on his vehicle. The subject was identified as Zach Snow of Ely. Snow was issued a citation for disturbing the peace.

October 13

Report of property damage in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had damaged the window on his vehicle.

Report of an open door in Ely — Reporting party stated that the door on her neighbors home was open and the neighbors had left town for a few days. The residence was checked and the door secured.

Report of a problem with an employee in Ely — Reporting party stated that her boyfriend had been fired and the employer was now threatening to throw her belongings out onto the street. The reporting party removed her items from the residence and left the area.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who provided conflicting statements on what had occurred. The parties involved were advised to keep the peace or separate from each other.

Report of a citizen’s assist in Ely — Officer assisted a female subject who was having difficulty with the death of a family member.

Report of threats in Ely — Reporting party stated that his girlfriend’s husband came to his home and is threatening to beat him up. Both parties involved were advised to stay away from each other.

Report of a shoplifter in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual had left her place of employment with an item she didn’t pay for. The individual was identified as Cristina Lerch of Ely. She was issued a citation for petit larceny.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that he gave some money to a friend to buy some items at the store. The friend then took the money and used it for her own use. Investigation continues.

Report of vandalism in Ely — Reporting party stated that the mirror had been damaged on his car.

October 14

Report of a disturbance — Officer located the music disturbance and issued a citation to Albert Ablia of McGill for disturbing the peace.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and reported that he was fine.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen a trail camera from his place of work.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were arguing over the consumption of food. The parties were advised to separate for the day.

Report of a dog at large in Ely — The owner of the dog was contacted and advised to keep the dog contained.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that he left his laptop at a local business and when he returned to get it, it was gone.

Report of fireworks — Report was given to Ely Tribal Police.
