White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Oct. 15-21. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies. 

October 15

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual obtained fuel at her place of business then was unable to pay for it. The individual when located will be issued a citation for petit larceny.

Report of possible child abuse — Reporting party stated that she received a text message from an individual that she felt was threatening towards a child. Investigation continues.

Report of an arrest in Ely — Officer reported that Jay Haslem age 53 of Ely was arrested on a Ely Justice Court warrant, for contempt of court.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that she recently terminated an employee. The employee has now been making threats towards her. The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that his ex-girlfriend came to his home and tried to start a fight with his new girlfriend. All the parties involved were contacted and advised to stay away from each other.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that her juvenile son had been battered while on a school bus. Investigation continues.

Report of a juvenile problem — The area was patrolled and no juveniles were located causing any disturbance.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that she had gotten into a verbal argument with her husband and that he had punched her vehicle. No damage was located on the vehicle. The husband had left the area and was not located.

October 16

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Reporting party stated that his adult son came to his home and that he is intoxicated and causing a disturbance. Officer contacted the son and he was trespassed from the father’s home.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — Officer patrolled the area, but the individual was not located.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that his neighbor was outside swinging swords around. Officer contacted the neighbor who denied the allegation. They were advised to stay away from each other.

Report of harassment in Ely — Reporting party stated that his son is being threatened by his ex-girlfriend’s father. Reporting party wanted the incident documented. A report was completed.

Report of a fire in Ely — The area was patrolled, but no fire was located.

Report of a lost wallet in Ely — The wallet was located by the reporting party.

Report of a custody problem in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved who were arguing over the custody of their children. The parties compromised on the custody issue.

Report of child abuse in Ely — Officer investigated the incident and reported that the claim was unfounded.

October 17

Report of an accident — The report was given to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Report of a disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the individual who was intoxicated and being loud. He was advised to keep the peace.

Report of harassment in Ely — Several students reported that they were receiving harassing instagrams from an unknown individual. Investigation continues.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that she had bought a dog and the seller of the dog came to her home and took the dog back. The seller was contacted and she stated that she never received payment for the dog. The parties involved were advised it was a civil mater.

Report of a possible theft — Reporting party stated that when she arrived at work she noticed that one of the company trucks had the gas cap removed. The incident was documented.

Report of an injured elk — The elk was located and it appeared it had been struck by a vehicle. The elk was put down.

Report of a garbage problem in Ely — Officer is attempting to contact the owner of the residence to have the garbage cleaned up.

Report of a disturbance in Ely — Officer located a juvenile who was creating a disturbance by riding a motorized scooter in the area. He was advised to ride it elsewhere.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The children were contacted and were fine.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved who had been involved in a verbal argument. The parties were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had stole his X Box and games from his residence. Investigation continues.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of an accident in Ely — Officer received a report of a hit and run accident. Officer located the vehicle that had caused the accident and during the officers investigation arrested Melissa L. Cook age 18 of Ely. Cook was arrested for DUI, headlamps required, hit and run unattended vehicle, open container and minor in consumption.

October 18

Report of a custody problem in Ely — Reporting party stated that her child was visiting the father of her child and where the father was living she didn’t like it. She was advised the no crime had occurred.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Reporting party stated that he yelled at a subject that was speeding in a local parking lot. The subject driving the vehicle then got out of his vehicle and proceeded to yell at the reporting party. The area was patrolled, but the operator of the vehicle was not located.

Report of a civil problem in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual had moved out of an apartment but didn’t pay his rent. The reporting party was advised it was a civil mater.

Report of a suspicious subject in Ely — Officer contacted the individual and reported that no crime has occurred.

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that someone was taking pictures of him. He was advised that no crime had occurred.

Report of possible gunshots in Ely — The area was patrolled, but nothing was located.

October 19

Report of property damage in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had broken the windshield on his vehicle.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of malicious mischief in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had thrown eggs at her house.

Report of a violation of a protection order — The incident was investigated, but no court order was in place.

Report of child abuse in Ely — Officer received a report of a small child walking in the street unsupervised. Officer contacted the parents of the child who had no idea where their child was. The living condition for the children was also in disarray. The parents were identified as Joshua Parent age 28 of Ely and Christina Parent age 26 of Ely. Christina Parent was arrested for child neglect and Joshua parent was arrested for child neglect and possession of a controlled substance.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer received a report of a domestic battery that was taking place inside a moving vehicle. The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a juvenile problem in Ely — The area was patrolled, but no juveniles were located walking in the roadway.

Report of a disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that no disturbance was located.

Report of a fight in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved who had been engaged in an altercation. The parties separated for the night.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of a shoplifter in Ely — Officer received a report of a juvenile who had removed an item from a local business establishment without paying for it. The juvenile was released to his parent and a report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of a lost hunter — Search and Rescue was dispatched and then later cancelled, due to the hunter returning home.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The children were contacted and were fine.

Report of a domestic battery in Ely— Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that Derek L. Thomas age 24 of Ely was arrested for domestic battery no. one. He is accused of battering his wife.

Report of a citizen assist in Ely — Officer contacted the reporting party who was having difficulty dealing with situations in her life. She was provided information on where to obtain help.

New bookings — Joshua Parent, child neglect and possession of a controlled substance, bail $20,000; Christina Parent, child neglect, bail $10,000; Derek L. Thomas, domestic battery, bail $3,000; KC J. Valdez, domestic battery, bail $3,000; Brandie M. Tate, contempt of court, bail $994.

October 20

Report of a death — Officer reported that Donald W. Reed age 84 of Ely died at his residence of natural causes.

Report of an ambulance assist in Ely — Officer contacted the patient who was intoxicated. He declined any assistance.

Report of a domestic battery in Ely — Officer contacted one of the parties involved who denied any physical altercation. The report was unfounded.

Report of a lost hiker — Officer reported that Search and Rescue responded to Garnet Hill due to a lost hiker. The individual had become disoriented and hiked down to the highway were she obtained a ride to the Sheriff’s Office.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that an individual stayed at her home and when he left she was missing several rings. Investigation continues.

October 21

Report of a juvenile problem in Ely — Reporting party stated that she is getting unwanted messages on her phone. Investigation continues.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Officer received a report of an individual illegally living in a camper trailer. Officer contacted the occupant and advised him he could not live in the trailer.

Report of a noise disturbance — Officer contacted several individuals who were intoxicated. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that while operating his vehicle on a roadway someone threw something at his car. The object struck the windshield causing it to break. The incident was documented.

Report of a fight in Ely — Officer received a report of two juveniles that had been involved in a fight. The parties involved were contacted along with their parents and a report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of a theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that her cell phone had been stolen while attending school.

Report of an accident — Officer received a report of a vehicle accident that had occurred on County Road 44. Officer contacted the operator who was identified as Shirley Y. Towne of Ruth. Towne had lost control of her vehicle, which had left the roadway and drove through a brushy area. An accident report was completed.

Report of an open door in Ely — Officer located an open door on a closed business. The business was checked and the door secured.
