White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Nov. 19-24. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies. 

November 19

Report of a fatal accident in Ely — Officers received a report of a vehicle accident that had occurred in the 2300 block of Campton Street. When officers arrived they located a vehicle that had struck a parked vehicle than collided into a tree. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Chad K. Sainsbury age 26 of Ely. Sainsbury was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer reported that Sainsbury was operating the vehicle and was the only occupant. He was traveling eastbound on Campton Street when he allowed his vehicle to drift to the left and struck a parked vehicle. His vehicle then collided into a tree, coming to rest.

Report of an accident in Ely — Officer reported that K.C. Valdez of Ruth was operating a vehicle on East Aultman Street near 9th Street. He fell asleep while driving and struck a tree. A accident report was completed.

Report of a juvenile problem — The area was patrolled, but no juveniles riding their bikes in the roadway were located.

Report of drug use in Ely — Officer reported that during a investigation into possible drug use Randall Pirnar age 18 of Ely was arrested. Pirnar was arrested for use of a controlled substance and on a probation violation.

Report of a dog problem in Ely — Officer received a report of a dog that was stuck in-between a doggie door and a house door. Officer freed the dog.

Report of threats in Ely — Officer received a report of a student that had made threats at a local school. The student had been suspended from school. Officer contacted the student and his parent and a report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that a individual was in her home and he was not supposed to be there. Officer went to the home and no one was located.

Report of a fraud in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone was using her bank debit card without her permission. Reporting party had already contacted her bank, which had cancelled her card. Investigation continues.

Report of an intoxicated pedestrian/arrest in Ely — Officer located the individual who was intoxicated and walking in the roadway. Officer identified the individual as Steven R. Groben II age 39 of Ely. During the officers investigation Groben was arrested for intoxicated person in a roadway and restricted person failing to change address.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that his son took his ATV without permission. The ATV was located and returned to the reporting party.

New bookings — Randall Pirnar, use of a controlled substance, bail $10.000, probation violation, no bail; Steven R. Groben II, intoxicated person in a roadway and restricted person failing to change address, bail $10,000.

November 20 

Report of property damage in Ely — Reporting party stated that her boyfriend got mad at her and puncher her vehicle. The vehicle sustained a large dent. Contact to be made with the boyfriend.

Report of an agency assist in Ely — Officers assisted D.C.F.S. on the removal of children from a residence.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer patrolled the area, but the individuals involved were not located.

Report of a medical assist in Ely — Officer assisted Ely ambulance with an individual who had fallen and injured his face.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that due to conflicting statements on what had happened no action was taken. The parties involved separated for the night.

New bookings — Olivia Witzke, driving suspended, bail $840, arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

November 21

Report of a theft — The reporting party claimed someone stole currency from his residence. A report was completed.

Report of a disabled vehicle — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in the snow.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in the fallout from the blizzard.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in the frozen vapor.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in precipitation that was neither a liquid, nor a solid.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in snow.

Report of a theft in Ely — The reporting party claimed a male subject stole currency from a place of business. The investigation continues.

Report of a death — 62-year-old Robert Luttrell died of an unknown cause. The investigation continues.

Report of a citizen assist in Ely — The deputy assisted a subject who had gotten locked out of her home.

Report of a private property accident in Ely — Lee Anderson, of Ely, backed into a vehicle being driven by Janael Gamber, also of Ely. A report was completed.

Report of an ATV problem in Ely — The reporting party complained that a neighbor was using an ATV to plow snow into the roadway. The ATV operator was advised not to plow the snow into the road.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in the result from the tempest of ice when hell froze over.

Report of a disabled vehicle in Ely — The deputy assisted with a vehicle that was stuck in snow.

Report of a welfare check in Ely — The subject was located and was fine.

Report of an attempt to locate in Ely — The reporting party claimed her minor child had left their motel room and hadn’t returned.  The deputy located the juvenile, who returned back to the motel.

November 22

Report of an open door in Ely — Officer located an open door on a closed business. The business was checked and no problems were located. The building was secured.

Report of a hit and run accident — Reporting party stated that a vehicle backed into his. The striking vehicle then fled the scene. An accident report was completed.

Report of an accident — Anastacia Wilkin of Ely was operating a vehicle traveling on SR 490. Her vehicle slid on some black ice causing it to leave the roadway and striking a road marker. An accident report was completed.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

Report of possible drug use in Ely — The report was given to the Eastern Nevada Narcotics TASK Force.

Report of a reckless driver in Ely — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a possible sexual assault in Ely — Officer received a report of a child who had possibly been sexually assaulted. Officer is attempting to contact the parent of the child. Investigation continues.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual who requested no assistance.

Report of a juvenile problem in Ely — Reporting party stated that she has an argument with her child and he fled the home. The child later returned. Officer spoke to the child and advised him to follow the rules set by his mother.

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Officer contacted the reporting party who had an argument with another subject over comments posted on Facebook. The parties involved had separated before officers arrived.

November 23 

Report of an arrest in Ely — Officer reported that Anthony Mayer age 33 of Las Vegas was arrested for D.U.I. and driving on right side required.

Report of a violation of a protective order in Ely — Officer investigated the incident and reported that no violation had occurred.

Report of a dog bite — Reporting party stated that her neighbors dog was in her yard and when her teenage daughter went to take it back to the neighbors yard it bite her. The daughter received medical treatment at E.R. Investigation continues.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer located the vehicle and during his investigation arrested the operator identified as Matthew S. Merys age 24 of Ely. Merys was arrested for D.U.I., second offense, open container and no insurance.

Report of an alarm in Ely — False alarm.

New bookings — Anthony Mayer, driving on right side required and D.U.I., bail $965; Matthew S. Merys, D.U.I., second offense, open container and no insurance, bail $2,650.

November 24

Report of a problem with a subject in Ely — Officer contacted the individual who was causing a disturbance at a local bar. The individual was trespassed from the bar.

Report of a dog problem in Ely — The area was patrolled, but no barking dogs were located.

Report of a stolen purse in Ely — Reporting party stated that her purse had been stolen out her vehicle. Her vehicle was parked in front of her home. Officer searched the area, but the purse was not located.

Report of a disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted the occupants of the apartment who denied any argument had taken place. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of identity theft in Ely — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen her identity and had attempted to take out a loan in her name. The incident was documented.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a dog problem — Officer received a report of a dog that was injured. The dog was located, but ran off.

Report of a domestic disturbance in Ely — Officer contacted one of the parties involved who stated that he had a verbal argument with his father. The two had separated for the night.

Report of a reckless driver in Ely — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

New bookings — Sylvia L. Dejean, serving time; Joe L. Goldsmith, serving time; Douglas M. Sparks, D.U.I, first offense, basic speed and open container, bail $1,314, arrested by Ely Tribal Police.
