Verena Tate

Tate1Verena Lue Tate, of Las Vegas, passed away November 25, 2013. She was born January 26, 1933 in Ruth, Nevada to parents, Harry and Erma Erickson.

She attended elementary and high school in White Pine County, and several years at BYU and the University of Utah. In 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, George Gerald Tate in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, she traveled with him during his years in the service and then they settled back to their beloved Nevada where she spent the rest of her life.

She was a beautiful person with a gentle personality. She was kindly and a friend to all. She was an accomplished pianist and a skilled China painter. She was an avid reader and had a library of several thousand books in her home. She made many beautiful knitted and crocheted articles that she shared as gifts to family and friends. She was a faithful, loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, George Gerald Tate.

She loved her children; Mark (deceased); daughter, Marcel; son, Jason; as well as her grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held in Las Vegas, and burial was in Ely, Nevada.

  1. Verena was my aunt and one of the nicest people a person could ever know! I truly know that my uncle, George, will miss her more than words can say! I have known them all of my life and remember them before they were even married. If you could ever describe “the perfect couple”, I could say that George and his dear wife, Verena, would certainly fit the image. On behalf of all of the Tate family, please remember how much we have loved and admired Verena… truly one-of-a-kind person! Don Tate, nephew

    The Erikson family lived across the street from my family, the Blackhams, out in Ruth,Nevada many years ago. I remember Verena as a very nice person. She played the french horn in the Ruth Grade School band and later at WPHS. Our two families were members of the Ruth Ward of the L.D.S. Church in Ruth. I remember Gerald Tate also from WPHS at send my condolences to him.
