White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for February 26-March 3. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies. 

Feb. 26

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer reported that the vehicle was located and no crime had occurred.

Report of identify theft — Reporting party stated that he was informed by the Social Security Department that someone in Virginia was using his social security number. The employer of the individual using the social security number was contacted and advised of the fraud. The local police department in Virginia was also contacted. Investigation continues.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that she had a conversation with a individual who was claiming he was injured while working on her property. The reporting party stated that she is not the property owner. The reporting party was advised it was a civil matter and to provide the information to her attorney.

Report of unattended children — Officer received a report of children being left alone in a vehicle. The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a private property accident — Elizabeth Lopez of Ely was operating a vehicle and was backing up. She failed to see a parked vehicle behind her belonging to Ann Hamilton of Lund. Lopez’s vehicle struck Hamilton’s vehicle causing damage. An accident report was completed.

Report of a runaway juvenile — Officer located a runaway juvenile out of Washoe County. The juvenile was detained and transported to the Elko Detention Center.

Report of a disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who stated that they had been involved in a argument over money. They were advised to keep the peace.

Feb. 27

Report of a welfare check — Officers responded to a 911 hang-up and found a couple had been arguing.  The male half left prior to law enforcement arrival.

Report of a theft — The reporting party gave several different stories about the theft of her cell phone.  She later called and claimed to have found the phone.

Report of a civil issue — The reporting party claimed to have a problem with child custody involving his ex-wife.  The reporting party was advised to contact his attorney.

Report of a welfare check — The subject was contacted and found to be in good health.

Report of a citizen assist — Officers assisted the reporting party in gaining entry to her home.

Report of a bad check — The reporting party claimed to have received several checks for services rendered that were returned non-sufficient funds.  A report was completed and submitted to the District Attorney’s Office.

Report of a civil problem — The reporting party claimed to have given something to a friend, but now wanted it back.  He was advised to handle the situation through small claims court.

Report of a trespasser — The reporting party hired someone to maintain a rental house and pick up rent.  The person had not fulfilled their duties as promised.  The reporting party wanted them trespassed from the property.  The deputy attempted to contact the hired person, but has thus far been unsuccessful.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claims to be receiving phone calls where the caller claims to be part of a court case and demands a response from the reporting party.  This appears to be a scam and the reporting party was advised not to reveal any personal information.

Report of an arrest — 44 year old Ruth resident Trent Howes was arrested at his home on a warrant.

Report of a trespasser — A local business trespassed a subject from their establishment in the presence of law enforcement.  The subject left without incident.

Report of a DUI — The reporting party claimed a subject was sleeping in a vehicle in a parking lot.  The subject was contacted and identified as 76 year old James Petrovich, of Ruth.  Petrovich was later arrested for driving under the influence.

New Bookings — Jennifer Leeann Perkins, Open and gross lewdness – Indecent exposure – warrant, Bail $10,000; Trent Howes, Criminal contempt – warrant, Bail $742; James Leo Petrovich, Driving under the influence, Bail $890.

Feb. 28

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were involved in a verbal argument. The parties involved separated for the night.

Report of threats — Reporting party stated that he was threatened by his ex-girlfriends new boyfriend. Reporting party stated that the individual was challenging him to fight. Officer is attempting to locate the boyfriend.

Report of a domestic battery — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that a juvenile had battered his younger brother. The juvenile was detained and transported to the Elko Detention Center. A report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of a custody problem — Reporting party stated that he went to pick up his child for visitation, but the mother and child were not at home. Officer contacted the mother by phone who stated that she had left the state. Investigation continues.

Report of a arrest — Officer reported that Michael D. Oliver Jr. age 26 of Preston was arrested on a probation violation.

Report of a found wallet — The owner of the wallet was contacted.

Report of internet fraud — Reporting party stated that she purchased two ATV’S over the internet. Reporting party stated that she sent the money, but never received the ATV’S. The incident was documented.

Report of a 911 hangup — The caller was contacted who stated that he was having problems with his telephone.

Report of a arrest — Officer reported that Samuel J. Swafford age 25 of Ely was arrested on a probation violation.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of a individual causing a disturbance at a local bar. When officers arrived the individual had left the area.

Report of a dog bite — Reporting party stated that his child had been bitten by a friends dog. The child received medial attention at E.R.

March 1

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of a individual who was acting strangely. Officer contacted the individual who was delusional. He was taken to E.R. by a family member.

Report of a alarm — False alarm.

Report of a suspicious subject — Reporting party stated that she seen someone hanging around her home. The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of a scam — Reporting party stated that he received a phone call from a individual claiming to be a representative of Mt. Wheeler Power. The caller stated that he was behind on his bill and needed to pay it or his power would be shut off. The reporting party called Mt. Wheeler and they advised him that his bill was not over due and that they did not call him. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to cease any contact with the caller.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. She denied that she was operating her vehicle in a reckless manner.

Report of a found wallet — The wallet was placed into lost and found.

Report of a citizen assist — Reporting party was playing with a set of handcuffs and they got stuck on him. Officer assisted the individual with removing them from his wrist.

Report of a fight — Officer contacted the individual who stated that he was yelling at his dog that was barking

Report of possible drug use — Officer received a report of possible drug use at a local bar. The area was patrolled, but the individuals involved had fled the area.

March 2

Report of an alarm — False car alarm.

Report of a problem with a subject — When officer attempted to make contact with the reporting party no one was home.

Report of a problem with a juvenile — Reporting party stated that her juvenile daughter was out of control and threatening to harm herself. Officer contacted the daughter and spoke to her about her problems. A report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

Report of a welfare check — Officer reported that the individual was not at home.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that her door lock had been damaged. The incident was documented

Report of a dog at large — Officer located the dog running at large and is attempting to locate the owner to give them a ticket for dog at large.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that her juvenile daughter left the residence and hasn’t come home for several days. The reporting party believes the juvenile is staying at a friends home in the area. Officers are attempting to locate the juvenile.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that she observed several individuals trying to steal gas out of a vehicle. When she approached them they fled the area. Officers patrolled the area, but the individuals were not located.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into his home several days ago and stole his prescription medication. A report was completed.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that she observed a individual loitering around a trailer home. Officer contacted the individual who was looking for a lost item. He had worked on the trailer home earlier in the day and had returned to look for his wallet he had lost.

Report of a intoxicated subject — Officer received a report of a individual who was passed out in a bathroom at a local gas station. Officer contacted the individual and identified his as Daniel P. Calandro of Scottsdale, AZ. He was detained until sober.

Calandro, Civil prospective custody, Release when sober; Jason Bills, Possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocain, and possession of drug paraphernalia, Bail $31,375. Arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol; Garan Grand, Possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocain, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of heroin, and driving suspended, Bail $47,000. Arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

March 3

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had broken a window on his vehicle. Investigation continues.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that they gave conflicting statements on what had occurred. The parties separated and the investigation continues.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that her purse had been stolen while it was left in a friends vehicle.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that several employees have reported that while they are at work someone has been stealing gas out of their vehicles.

Report of a atv disturbance — The area was patrolled, but the ATV was not located.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that they received a phone call from a person representing a local business. The caller wanted the reporting parties bank information. The reporting party called the business back and they advised that they had not called the reporting party. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to never give personal information out over the phone, unless they solicited the call.

Report of a dog at large — Report given to Animal Control.

Report of a dog at large — The dog was apprehended and placed into the Dog Pound.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that someone had accessed her checking account and removed some funds. Officer is awaiting bank records to verify the theft.

Report of a suspicious subject — The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that she had observed a juvenile walking around with a BB Gun. Officer contacted the juvenile and cautioned him about where he could shoot the BB Gun.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a person had rented a vehicle and had accumulated a large bill. When the person returned the vehicle they refused to pay. Investigation continues.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer located the vehicle and reported that no crime had occurred.

Report of possible child abuse — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that no abuse had occurred.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that an individual had a large fire in his back yard. The individual was contacted and advised to make sure the fire is put out.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer reported that he observed a suspicious vehicle in a area where multiple thefts had occurred. When contact was made with the driver of the vehicle he was identified as James D. Doutre age 43 of Ely. During the officers investigation Doutre was arrested for possession of a controlled substance
