White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine Sheriff’s Office for May 21 – 26. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

MAY 21, 2014

Report  of an open door — Officer reported that he located an open door on a closed business. The business was checked and the door secured.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report  of a vehicle accident — Anthony Gatti of Ruth was operating a vehicle traveling on US 6 when he struck a deer. An accident report was completed.

Report of a vehicle blocking the roadway — Reporting party stated that he was doing some work on a roadway and the way a vehicle was parked it wasn’t allowing him to complete his job. Officer tagged the vehicle for removal.

Report  of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of several individuals involved in a fight. Officer contacted the parties involved who gave conflicting statements on what had occurred. The parties involved separated for the day.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Robert J. Ramirez age 35 of Ely was arrested on a Ely Municipal Court warrant for contempt of court.

Report  of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had been engaged in a verbal argument. The parties separated for the day.

Report  of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and reported that no assistance was needed.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report  of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and reported that he was fine.

Report of a fight — Officer received a report of a fight that had taken place between several subjects. The parties involved were contacted who provided information on what happened. The parties involved blamed each other for the fight. They were advised to keep the peace and to stay away from each other.

Report of a theft of a dog — The dog was located and he had escaped from his leach.

May 22, 2014

Report of a business license violation — A man was allegedly attempting to conduct business in the city without a valid business license.  The suspect was located and advised.  He said he would comply.

Report  of an alarm — Found to be due to a malfunction, the alarm was.

Report of a reckless driver — The vehicle was gone when officers arrived in the area.

Report of an accident — John Reil reported his construction equipment caught fire while doing work in a rural area.  A report was completed.

Report of vandalism — The reporting party claimed someone damaged a door on his business.  A report was completed.

Report of an arrest — Lucien Harry Leflohic was arrested during a traffic stop for various license and vehicle violations.

Report of a juvenile problem — The reporting party claimed her juvenile daughter was making threats to hurt herself.  The juvenile was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Report of a juvenile problem — The reporting party complained of juveniles loitering on private property.  The juveniles dispersed upon law enforcement arrival.

Report of suspicious circumstances — The reporting party observed suspicious happenings at a neighbor’s house.  It was later found to be the landlord of the building.

Report  of a suspicious vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report  of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that his roommate was causing a disturbance and was breaking items at their home. Officer reported that during the investigation the roommate who was identified as Dennis M. Brooks age 28 of Ely was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report  of an arrest — Officer reported that Ronald T. Gallegos age 60 was arrested on an Ely Justice Court warrant.

Report of vandalism — Reporting party stated that his vehicle was parked at a local parking lot and during that time his hood on his vehicle was dented.

Report of a calf on the roadway — The calf was put back into the fenced field.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that David Kensey age 42 of Ely was arrested for fraudulent acts of gaming. He is accused of stealing a voucher from a customer at a local casino.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument. The parties involved were advised to keep the peace.

Report of an arrest — Officer Reported that he attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the vehicle fled the area. Officer later located the operator of the vehicle and identified him as Cody Spoelstra age 22 of Ely. He was arrested for reckless driving, obstructing a police officer, no valid driver’s license and resisting arrest.

MAY 24, 2014

Report of a woman screaming — Officer contacted the woman who was upset because her friend had been arrested. She was advised to keep the peace.

Report of a dead animal in the roadway — Several rabbits were removed.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that James E. Southcott age 60 was arrested for D.U.I., child restraints and child neglect.

Report of a dog bite — Reporting party stated that he had been bitten by a dog when he was standing to close to a fence where the dog was contained. The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual was knocking over flags at the cemetery. The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Tabitha A. Luna age 40 of Ely was arrested for driving without a valid license.

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that someone was placing photos of her around the McGill area. The photos had been photo shopped and were offensive. The incident was documented.

Report of an accident — Officer reported that a individual had crashed while riding his four wheeler. The individual was taken to E.R. by ambulance.

Report of found drugs — Reporting party stated that she found some drugs in a bathroom at a local restaurant. It is unknown who had dropped them, there. The drugs were collected and destroyed.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a possible drunk driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

MAY 25, 2014

Report of a 911 hangup — Officer reported that the caller was contacted and no problems were reported.

Report of a suicidal subject / arrest — Officer received a report of an individual who was suicidal and making threats towards others. The individual was located and a traffic stop was performed. During the officers traffic stop the individual who was identified as Meghan C. Trujillo age 25 of Ely drove her vehicle at a Deputy attempting to run him over. The Deputy fired his firearm several times at Trujillo. Trujillo then surrendered. Trujillo was arrested for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and D.U.I. Investigation continues.

Report of suspicious activity — Officer received a report of several subjects hanging around a local motel room. Officer made contact with the individuals and identified them as Moriah S. Porterfield age 24 of Ely and Daniel A. Hicks age 19 of Las Vegas. During the officers investigation Porterfield and Hicks were arrested for use of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and reported that he was fine.

Report of inappropriate contact — Reporting party stated that his daughter was receiving Face Book messages that were inappropriate. Investigation continues.

Report of a found child — Officer reported that a small child had left the residence while his mother was asleep. The mother was contacted and advised to watch her children more closely.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of threats — Reporting party stated that her soon to be ex-husband had sent her some text message that were threatening in nature. The incident was documented.

Report of a dog problem — The area was patrolled, but no barking dog was located.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer received a report of a juvenile that was out of control. The juvenile was taken to E.R. for medical assistance.

Report of a disturbance — Reporting party stated that an individual who he had evicted from a rental was at his home causing a disturbance. Officer reported that during his investigation Russell E. Draper age 23 of Ely was arrested for intimidating a police officer, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, and battery on a peace officer.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Steve Garcia age 32 of Las Vegas was arrested for basic speed, D.U.I. and open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

MAY 26, 2014

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer assisted Ely Tribal Police with two female juveniles who were under the influence of alcohol. The juvenile were detained and later released to their parents. A report was sent to juvenile Probation.

Report of a found bike — The bike was placed into lost and found.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a stolen vehicle — Reporting party stated that her boyfriend took her car without her permission. The vehicle was located and returned to the owner.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had poured soda on the inside of her vehicle. Officer contacted the responsible party who admitted to pouring the soda. Investigation continues.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer reported that the operator of the vehicle was located and identified as Jerdon Long of Ely. He was issued a citation for reckless driving.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and reported that she was fine.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a hit and run accident — Reporting party stated that he noticed damage to his vehicle as if it had been hit by another vehicle. It is unknown when the accident occurred.

Report of a intoxicated individual — Officer contacted the individual and advised him to keep the peace.

Report of an attempted theft — Reporting party stated that an individual attempted to steal a bottle of alcohol from his place of business. The employee contacted the individual who returned the item. Officer patrolled the area, but the individual was not located.

Report of a found purse — The purse was returned to the owner.
