“Great moments in American history” is the theme for this year’s Fourth of July Parade, taking place appropriately on Friday, July 4. The parade will get started at 11 a.m. from Broadbent Park and proceed down Aultman Street, ending one block East of the county park. There will be games for children beginning immediately following the parade held in Broadbent park. There is still booth spaces available in the park at no cost. Interested parties should contact the club’s secretary, Bunny Hill, at 775-296-0439 to reserve spaces.
Participation is expected to be up from previous years as the festivities fall on a Friday in addition to class reunions taking place. Due to the expected increase in attendants, preregistration will start at 8:30 a.m. in Broadbent Park and run until 10:30 a.m. Preregistering is highly recommended. Anyone who misses the cutoff time at 10:30 a.m. will not be judged but can still participate as an entrant.
For the safety of the children, the Great Basin Service Club has requested that parade participants not throw throw candies or other items during the event. The club suggests instead that individuals walk along the parade route and hand out candy to the children, in an effort to not have children run out into the road to try and collect candy or other items.
The annual fireworks display will culminate the day at 9 p.m. at the White Pine County Golf Course. The club is raising funds to pay for the annual fireworks display. For a rural community we enjoy one of the best fireworks displays. Please help support this project. “Buy a Shot” are available for $10. each. You can send a check to the Great Basin Service Club in your name, your children’s or grand children’s names. All names will be listed in the newspaper after the event, however, not the amount. Every bit helps continue this community tradition. GBSC, P. O. Box 151706, Ely, NV 89301. Let’s have a great Fourth of July celebration.
