White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine Sheriff’s Office for May 27-13. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

MAY 27, 2014

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Melissa L. Woodworth age 23 of Ely was arrested for no driver’s license in possession, open container, failure to maintain lane of travel and D.U.I. #1

Report of an open door — Officer reported that he located an open door on a vehicle in a local parking lot. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was secured.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument. The parties involved were advised to keep the peace.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of trespassers — Officer contacted several juveniles who were at the skate park during school hours. They were advised to leave the area while school was in session.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a co-worker had stolen some money and prescription pills from her purse. Investigation continues.

Report of threats — Reporting party stated that he is receiving threatening text messages from an individual. The reporting party wanted the incident documented.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Daniel Norgaard age 63 of Ely was arrested for driving on right side required and D.U.I. # 2

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that an individual had been conversing with them on Facebook and had made several inappropriate comments. The incident was documented.

Report of suspicious activity — Reporting party stated that several people are cleaning up a vacant lot and removing vehicles. Reporting party was concerned that they have permission to do so. Officer is attempting to contact the people involved.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted who received assistance from a friend.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen several lights off her vehicle.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who admitted that they had been yelling at each other. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of an atv accident — Officer reported that two juveniles were operating an ATV on a public roadway. The operator of the ATV lost control of the ATV causing it to roll. The passenger sustained serious injuries and she was taken to E.R. by ambulance. The driver of the ATV also sustained minor injuries and she too was taken to E.R.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

MAY 28, 2014

Report of possible shots fired — Reporting party stated that someone had shot his house several times. When officers arrived the reporting party had left the area. No other information was obtained.

Report of a problem with a neighbor — Reporting party stated that his neighbor was leaning panels against his fence. The neighbor was contacted and advised to remove the panels.

Report of a possible burglary — Reporting party stated that someone had attempted to enter into her home and had set off the alarm.  The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer made contact with the reporting party who stated that his soon to be ex-wife was causing a disturbance. Officer contacted the soon to be ex-wife and she stated she had gone to the reporting parties home to work out child custody. They were both advised to keep the peace.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a truancy — The juvenile will be issued a citation for truancy and a report will be sent to Juvenile probation.

Report of child abuse — Officer received a report of a child abuse that had taken place. During the officers investigation Bryson Pickens age 48 of Ely was arrested for domestic battery and child abuse. He is accused of battering a child whom he is related to.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer made contact with the parties involved and reported that David Ulibarri of Ely was issued a citation for battery. He is accused of hitting an individual who was visiting his residence.

Report of suspicious subjects — The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of children riding a lawnmower on a city street — The area was patrolled, but the lawnmower riders were not located.

Report of a found child — Officer reported that a small child was located near a highway. The child was detained by a citizen and the report was given to Ely Tribal Police.

Report of an accident — William Panagopoulos of Ely was operating a vehicle and exiting a private drive onto a roadway. As he did so a vehicle being operated by Laverne Bernier was entering into the private drive. Bernier vehicle struck Panagopoulos vehicle causing damage. An accident report was completed.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of an individual who was causing a disturbance at a local residence. When officers arrived the individual had left the area.

Report of a suspicious subject — The reporting party claimed the subject left just prior to officers arriving.

Report of a domestic dispute — Deputies mediated an argument between spouses involving a vehicle and possible infidelity. Both parties separated for the night.

Report of a problem with a subject — The reporting party had issues with an adult step-child using a vehicle without her permission, but with the permission of her husband.  She was advised it was an issue she needed to discuss with her husband, not law enforcement.

Report of an alarm — The alarm was found to be false.

Report of a private property accident — 41 year old Ely resident Jennifer Ashby backed into a light pole in a parking lot.  A report was completed.

Report of a citizen assist — The deputy assisted in lifting an elderly subject who had fallen and couldn’t get up.

Report of a problem with a subject — The reporting party observed a male slumped over in a parked vehicle. When he checked his welfare, the male became hostile toward the reporting party.  The male left before officers arrived.

Report of a reckless driver — The vehicle was located, but the driver denied driving recklessly.

Report of a problem with a subject — The reporting party claimed a male had threatened him.  A report was completed.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claimed a female had been speaking poorly about him and wanted the incident reported.

Report of an accident — 17 year old Kyler Coburn, of Ely, claimed another vehicle side-swiped him.  The investigation continues.

Report of a welfare check — The reporting party claimed her child was in the company of someone whom she has a protection order against.  Officers were unable to locate the daughter, the adverse party of the protection order, or the reporting party.  Report unfounded.

Report of a problem with a subject — The reporting party claimed her neighbor was intoxicated and driving.  Officers were unable to locate the neighbor.

Report of a dog problem — The reporting party complained about dogs barking in his neighborhood.  The owners of the dogs were located and issued citations.

Report of a fight — The officers checked the area and discovered it the disturbance was caused by children playing, not fighting.

Report of an attempt to locate — The reporting party was concerned because he was unable to locate his wife.  The wife was later located and returned home.

MAY 30, 2014

Report of a hit and run accident — Officer received a report of a vehicle that had struck another vehicle and the striking vehicle had fled the scene. Officer located the striking vehicle and identified the operator as James D. Clark age 46 of Lund. He was arrested for D.U.I., hit and run accident, and failure to report an accident.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of an individual causing a disturbance at a local bar. Officer contacted the individual and he was advised to leave the bar for the night.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was not located.

Report of a citizens assist — Officer patrolled the area, but no one was located.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that she put up several signs advertising her business and someone stole the signs.

Report of a manhole cover causing a traffic hazard — The City of Ely was contacted and advised of the problem.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that an individual had forged her name on several checks. Investigation continues.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a battery — Officer received a report of an individual who had been battered. Officer contacted the individual who requested no assistance.

Report of an accident / private property — Daniale Miller of Ely was operating a vehicle and was backing up. As she did so she struck a parked trailer. An accident report was completed.

Report of citizen assist — Officer assisted an elderly female who was being combative with her care giver.

Report of an accident — Officer reported that the parties involved had exchanged information. No investigation had taken place.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of an individual causing a disturbance at a local bar. Officer reported that during his investigation Mary L. Tognoni age 30 of Ely was arrested for disturbing the peace.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a parking problem — Officer located a motor home parked on the street. The operator of the motor home was advised to leave the area.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer reported that several juveniles were banging on the walls at a local apartment building. The juveniles were contacted and advised to stop.

Report of a fight — The individuals involved were contacted who stated that they were friends and they were just messing around.

MAY 31, 2014

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that her dog keeps barking and believes someone is in the area. Officer patrolled the area, but no one was located.

Report of a suspicious subject — Reporting party stated that he was contacted by an individual who needed his debit card number to upgrade his TV service. The reporting party was advised it was a possible scam.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that he is separated from his wife and today she came and took their van from his place of work. He was advised it was a civil problem.

Report of property damage — Reporting party was backing up his vehicle onto a lawn so he could be closer to an apartment which he was removing property from. As he did so he ran over a water line causing it to break.

Report of a hit and run accident — Reporting party stated that someone had struck a power box causing damage to it. The striking vehicle had fled the scene.

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that she is receiving unwanted text messages and threats from an individual. The caller lives in CA. The incident was documented.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of possible fraud — Reporting party stated that she was contacted by a company selling satellite TV. The reporting party signed up for the service and provide personal information to the seller. Officer checked into the service and reported that no problems were located.

Report of a deer in the ely area — The deer was eating some green shrubbery and grazed on down the road.

Report of a battery — Reporting party stated that while she was attending a party she was battered by an individual. Investigation continues.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Reporting party stated that he was having problems with his aging father who was threatening his friends. The father was contacted and advised to stop his aggressive behavior.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that she was receiving unwanted text messages from two individuals. The parties involved were contacted and advised to stop their contact with the reporting party.

Report of cows on the roadway — The owner of the cows was contacted and advised of the problem.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that she located an individual sitting inside her vehicle. Nothing had been taken from the vehicle. The incident was documented.

Report of a dog problem — Officer reported that the owner of the dog was not at home. Officer is attempting to contact the owner of the dog and advise them of the barking problem.

JUNE 1, 2014

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party sated that an individual had come to his home and threatened him. The parties involved were contacted and advised to stay away from each other.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of vandalism — Reporting party stated that her business establishment had been shot with paintballs. The incident was documented.

Report of a water problem — Officer received a report of excessive watering at a residence. Officer contacted the owner of the home and advised her to adjust her sprinklers.

Report of trespassers — Reporting party stated that she located several individuals trespassing at the McGill Poll. The individuals left the area before officers arrived. Investigation continues.

Report of an attempt to locate — Reporting party stated that his elderly wife went for a walk and hasn’t returned. Search and Rescue and other volunteers were contacted and will be conducting a search of the area.
