Riding the Pony Express

Top: Marilyn Linares of Ibapah, Utah rides alongside Brett Christensen and his son Drake as part of the 18-hour Nevada leg of the Pony Express trail that locals ride every year. Brett’s horse is carrying the traditional “mochila” or mail bag, that was used by Pony Express riders to carry the mail from Sacramento, California to St. Joseph, Missouri. The 1,966 mile trail takes 10 days to traverse each year, with the trip broken down into shorter segments that reenactment riders follow.
