White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine Sheriff’s Office for July 2-8. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

July 2

Report of an alarm — An employee accidentally set off the alarm.

Report of an attempt to locate — A local housing facility for confining convicted persons advised they were unable to locate a resident.  They later advised the resident was located in the facility.

Report of a man with a gun — The reporting party claimed a man was walking in a populated area with a firearm.  Deputies located the man, who claimed to have sold the firearm.  It was later discovered that the man, identified as 48 year old Michael Shane Avery, was later discovered to be an ex-felon.  The firearms were also located.  Avery was later arrested for obstructing and delaying a peace officer and ex-felon in possession of a firearm.

Report of property damage — The reporting party claimed someone damaged part of a local business.  The reporting party provided video of a male subject injuring the building.  The investigation continues.

Report of a welfare check — The subject was not at home.

Report of a bad check — The reporting party claimed to have received several checks from several different people, which had been returned for non-sufficient funds.  A report was completed and submitted to the DA’s Office.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claimed a relative had looked down her blouse while at her home.  The relative was later trespassed from returning to the reporting party’s home.

Report of battery — The reporting party said he was attacked by another male subject and was battered.  The male suspect then kept the reporting party from calling 911.  The suspect then fled the area.  Deputies attempted to locate the suspect, but were unsuccessful.  A report will be submitted to the DA’s Office for review for the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claimed to have been harassing text messages.  A report was completed.

Report of an arrest — 42 year old Kristina Pickens, of Ely, was arrested at the Public Safety Building on a warrant.

Report of a suspicious subject — The subject fled the area prior to law enforcement arrival.

Report of a dog problem — The reporting party complained about a neighbors dogs barking.  The deputy attempted contact at the residence, but no one was home.

Christopher Rodriguez / Expired license plates – Non-resident driving revoked / Bail $1,065 / Arrested by the Department of Public Safety – Nevada Highway Patrol. Kristina Pickens / Warrant – Child neglect/endangerment / Bail $5,000.

JULY 3

Report of a attempted burglary — Reporting party stated that someone had attempted to gain access to his home. The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of graffiti — Reporting party stated that someone had placed graffiti on a wall at his place of business.

Report of a trespasser — Reporting party stated that a family had moved into her home and she did not give them permission to do so. Officer contacted the family who had been given permission to move into the home by the reporting parties’ friend. They were advised to remove their property and to leave the residence.

Report of a found bike — The bike was placed into lost and found.

Report of a bad check — The check was collected and turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for collections.

Report of a harassment — Reporting party stated that she is receiving unwanted telephone calls from a individual who lives out of the country. She was advised to have the number blocked.

Report of a lost hiker

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that he is having a problem with a subject at work. The incident was documented.

Report of a barking dog — The area was patrolled, but the dog was not located.

Report of a braking dog — Officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised her of the problem.

New bookings — None.

JULY 4

Report of a disturbance — Officer received a report of several individuals causing a disturbance at a local motel. The individuals were contacted and advised to keep the peace.

Report of a violation of a court order — Officer reported that the incident was investigated and no violation had occurred.

Report of a fight — Officer received a report of several individuals fighting inside a local casino. Officer contacted the parties involved and they were separated for the night.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a business sign she owns was stolen.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual at his home was intoxicated and was refusing to leave. The individual was contacted and he left the residence.

Report of an accident — Officer reported that an individual had crashed on his four wheeler. The individual was fine and he requested no assistance.

Report of a dog at large — The owner was located and the dog was returned.

Report of found keys — The keys were placed into lost and found.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Tyler D. Holland age 21 of Ely was arrested on a Ely Justice Court warrant.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated they are selling a motorcycle and they were contacted by an individual who claimed he paid for the motorcycle and needed it shipped, but the reporting party was responsible for the shipping costs. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to stop all contact with the individual.

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that an individual was challenging him to fight. All the parties involved were contacted and advised to stay away from each other.

Report of a disturbance — Reporting party stated that his neighbor put up a light on his home and it now shines in his window. The parties involved were contacted and a compromise was worked out.

Report of a intoxicated pedestrian — The individual was contacted and he left the area.

Report of fireworks — The individual who was lighting the fireworks was contacted and issued a warning.

Report of fireworks — The area was patrolled, but no fireworks were located.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that her ex-boyfriend was at her home beating on her door causing a disturbance. The ex-boyfriend was contacted who was wanting his property back. He was advised to make arraignments to obtain his property when he was sober.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument. The parties involved separated for the night.

New bookings — Tyler D. Holland / Ely Justice Court warrant, contempt of court / Bail $1,392.

JULY 5

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Ricky J. Lewis age 48 of Ely was arrested on a probation violation.

Report of an alarm — False alarm

Report of a found wallet — The wallet was returned to the owner.

Report of a custody problem — Officer investigated the incident and reported that the violation had occurred in another state.

Report of a threat — Reporting party stated that her ex-boyfriend keeps attempting to contact her. Officers are attempting to contact the ex-boyfriend.

Report of a dog problem — The dog was located running at large. The dog was taken to the pound.

Report of an injured deer — The deer was located and appeared to be able to care for itself. No action was taken.

Report of a custody problem — Reporting party stated that her child was not being returned to her at the proper times. Officer reported that no court order was in effect. The reporting party was advised to obtain a court order for child custody

Report of a disturbance — The area was patrolled, but no music disturbance was located.

Report of an ATV disturbance — Officer contacted the operator of the ATV and he was advised to ride elsewhere.

Report of an unsafe barbecue — Officer contacted the individuals and advised them to move the barbecue away from the apartment.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. The parties involved separated for the night.

Report of an accident /private property — Charlett Lee of Ely was operating a vehicle and was backing up. As she did so she failed to see a vehicle parked behind her belonging to Glenna Jewett of McGill. Lee’s vehicle struck Jewett’s vehicle causing damage. An accident report was completed.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Shawn R. Southall age 26 of Ely was arrested on a Ely Municipal Court warrant.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that several individuals were hanging around his home looking to cause problems. The individuals were contacted and advised to stay away from the reporting party.

Report of a fight — Officer reported that he located several individuals preparing to fight in a city street. The parties were contacted who separated for the night.

New bookings — Ricky J. Lewis / Probation violation / No bail. Shawn R. Southall / Ely Municipal Court warrant, contempt of court / Bail $417. Joseph Sandoval / Serving time.

JULY 6

Report of a 911 hangup — Officer contacted the caller who had accidentally called.

Report of an unattended child — Reporting party stated that a small child was found walking down the street. Officer reported that the child was returned to his parents that had left him unattended while they went to the store. A report was sent to D.C.F.S.

Report of a welfare check — Officer assisted an individual who needed to gather items for her child at a residence where the child had recently been staying.

Report of an open door — Officer located an open door on a vacant home. The home was checked and the door secured.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual came to her residence looking for his ex-girlfriend. The reporting party wanted the individual trespassed from her property. Officers are attempting to locate the individual.

Report of a custody problem — Reporting party stated that his child exchange time needed to be changed. Officer assisted in contacting the other party involved and a compromise was agreed upon.

Report of a stolen bicycle — Reporting party stated that his son’s bike had been stolen from their yard.

Report of a suicidal subject — When officers arrived at the individual’s residence he had left the area. Officers were unable to locate him.

Report of a suspicious subject — The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that William R. Gergen age 33 of Ely was arrested on a probation violation.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual came to her home. The individual took some type of pill and started chocking. When officers arrived the individual had left the area.

JULY 7

Report of a dead deer in the roadway — The deer was removed.

Report of a suspicious phone call — Reporting party stated that she received a telephone call indicating she would be arrested if she didn’t pay her back taxes. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to discontinue any conversations with the caller.

Report of a dog problem — Officer contacted the reporting party who stated that he was going to keep the dog that was running at large.

Report of a violation of a court order — Officer investigated the incident and reported that no violation had occurred.

Report of a custody problem — Reporting party stated that she recently left her husband and he has their child. The reporting party wanted to visit their child, but was denied the request by the father. The reporting party was advised to obtain a custody order.

Report of a dog bite — Reporting party stated that he had been bitten by his own dog. The reporting party received medical attention at E.R.

Report of a violation of a court order — Officer investigated the incident and reported that no court order was in effect.

Report of an accident — Angel Valentin-Zarate of Boise, ID was operating a vehicle traveling on US 93 when he struck a deer. The deer caused damage to his vehicle. A report was completed.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that he is in the process of building a home and someone stole a spool of electrical wiring form his job sight. Investigation continues.

Report of a reckless driver — The operator of the vehicle was contacted and warned about his driving behavior.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the reporting party who had engaged in a verbal argument with her sister. The sister left the residence for the night.

Report of a public nuisance — Officer contacted the owner of the home and advised him to clean up the garbage.

Report of found drug paraphernalia — The item was collected and destroyed.

Report of a noise disturbance — The area was patrolled, but no noise disturbance was located.

JULY 8

Report of a noise disturbance — Reporting party stated that he rented a motel room and the occupant next to him keeps banging on the wall. Officer contacted the individual who was causing the disturbance and he was issued a warning for disturbing the peace.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. During the officers investigation Thomas D. Smith age 35 of Ruth was arrested on a probation violation.

Report of a littering problem — Reporting party stated that people keep leaving trash on her property. The incident was documented.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that a juvenile had been left unattended at the pool. The parent of the juvenile was contacted and the situation was resolved.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party believes someone was spying on him. His concerns were addressed.

Report of a possible fraud — Reporting party stated that someone had used his social security number to gain employment. The IRS had already been notified of the situation.

Report of a possible violation of a court order — Officer patrolled the area, but no violation was located.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that an individual had come to her home and when she left she noticed that the individual had stolen her I Pad. Investigation continues.

Report of under age workers — Officer contacted the employer and reported that no violation had occurred.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen several saddles from his shed. Investigation continues.

Report of a noise disturbance — Officer contacted the occupants of the home and advised them to keep the peace.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer contacted several juveniles who were playing in the front yard. The juveniles admitted to being very loud. They along with their adult supervisor were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. The parties involved were warned for disturbing the peace.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that he had been out partying over the weekend and during his indulgent he lost his cell phone and wallet. The incident was documented.

Report of an alarm — Officer located the alarm and reported that it was a smoke detector that had been disposed of. The home owner was contacted and advised to remove the battery.
