Patricia Jeanne Stanko, 85 of Mc Gill Nevada died peacefully in the early morning hours of October 4, 2014 at the White Pines Care Center in Ely Nevada. She was born in December of 1928 to Pete and Alice Hughes of Pueblo Colorado. Patty grew up in Pueblo and graduated from Central High School in 1946. She attended Pueblo Junior College and the University of Colorado in Boulder. In 1949 Patty married Kenneth G Martin and moved to Denver where they adopted their two children Casey Martin and Nancy (Martin) Marshall. As a military family they moved to several different states and retired in Colorado. After Kenneth’s passing in 1986, Patty and her mother Alice moved to La Quinta, California and began an Art Business creating beautiful ceramics and painting commissioned portraits. In 1996 Patricia attended her 50th high school reunion in Pueblo and found a long lost friend and admirer, Frank D. Stanko. They immediately discovered that 50 years of separation had not dimmed the attraction, affection, respect and admiration they felt for one another in High School. After a short courtship they married and started a new chapter in their lives. They often told others that if they could get five good years together then the trip was worth it. They were blessed with over seventeen years of love and companionship dividing their time between their vacation home in the Palm Springs area (La Quinta) and their home in McGill. Patty’s family grew from two children to nine children the day she and Frank exchanged vows. Patty and Frank enjoyed their expanded family with many holiday celebrations in Mc Gill and in La Quinta.
Patricia was preceded in death by her mother and father Pete and Alice Hughes, her brother Pete Hughes (Jr.) and her beloved sister-in-law Nancy Hughes.
She is survived by her husband Frank D. Stanko, her children Casey Martin (Susan); Nancy Marshall (Todd); Frank Stanko (Dawn); Mike Stanko (Paula); Steve Stanko (Patty); Mary Therese Sattler (Mark); Mark Stanko (Cathy); Joe Stanko; Betty Blodgett (Paul); Scott Duane (son-in-law). She is also survived by 16 grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the White Pine Care Center where Patty received loving and compassionate care in her last few months with us.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ely Nevada.
