Susie Leyba has been named the Ely Lions Club Teacher of the Month for March.

The sixth grade science teacher at White Pine Middle School goes out of her way to make learning fun for her classes and always brings a good attitude into the classroom.

“She always has a smile on her face. She goes the extra mile to help her students and puts in long hours preparing them engaging and creative learning experiences,” WPMS Principal Sharyl Allen said.

Leyba had worked as a co-teacher for two years at the middle school before taking on a more prominent role teaching science after a position opened. Leyba had previously spent more than 20 years teaching elementary school children in the district before moving to the middle school.

“In her classroom on any given day, students are shooting basketballs, playing online games, creating cells from play dough and a variety of other academic games in order to solidify their learning,” White Pine High School Principal Adam Young said.
