Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are leased by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

AUGUST 12

Report of a violation of a court order — Officer spoke to the reporting party and determined that no violation had occurred.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that he recently got back with his wife, whom he had been separated from for several years. He believes that his wife’s boyfriend is now after him. The reporting party advised that the boyfriend is a shape shifter and can become an animal if he wants to. Officer documented the incident and the reporting party left the area.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that two tires had been damaged on a N.D.O.T. loader. A report was completed.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual and she requested no assistance.

Report of an ATL — The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of an atv disturbance — The area was patrolled, but the ATV was not located.

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that an individual keeps posting negative comments about his business online. The reporting party was advised to seek a court order to prevent the harassment.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

AUGUST 13

Report of harassment — Reporting party stated that her juvenile son is being challenged to fight other juveniles on Face Book. Officer is attempting to contact the other juveniles involved.

Report of a death — Officer reported that Robert M. Swetich age 76 of Ely died at his residence of natural causes.

Report of a dog left in a vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that her juvenile daughter acts out and won’t follow the family’s rules. The daughter was spoken to and advised to follow her parent’s rules.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and advised him of the complaint. He was issued a warning.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual approached him asking for money to get a friend out of jail. The reporting party gave the individual the money, but later learned the person was not in jail. Investigation continues.

Report of an ATV disturbance — The area was patrolled, but the ATV was not located.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a prowler — The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of graffiti — Officer reported while patrolling the Ely area he located Graffiti that had been spray painted at one of the local parks.

Report of a barking dog — Officer located the barking dog and contacted the owner. The owner was issued a citation for barking dog.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that it was a verbal argument. The parties involved separated for the night.

Report of an accident — Brandon Merys of Ely was operating a vehicle stopped at a red traffic light. Silvano Tellechea of Ely was operating a vehicle and was traveling behind Merys. Due to sun glare Tellechea failed to stop behind Merys and ran into the back of his vehicle causing damage. An accident report was completed.

Report of cows on the roadway — The owner of the cows was contacted and advised of the problem.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had damaged the gun rack at the county shooting range. The incident was documented.

Report of an arrest — Ashley D. McNay age 19 of Ely was arrested on an Ely Municipal Court warrant.

Report of threats — Reporting party advised that his wife was threatening to sign his name on a title to a vehicle. The incident was documented.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that several juveniles were digging holes on his property creating a race track for their bicycles. The reporting party was advised to call the Sheriff’s office when the juveniles returned.

Report of an ATV disturbance — The area was patrolled, but the ATV was not located.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that a friend was staying with her, but she made him leave due to his drug use. The friend came back to her apartment and was now banging on her door. When officers arrived the friend had left the area. Investigation continues.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had spray painted a school bus. The incident was documented.

Report of an ATL — The individual was located and was fine.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that several people were putting up tents near a residence. Officer contacted them and reported that Richard G. Howe (Editor’s note: Not County Commissioner Richard Howe) age 43 of Ely was arrested on a Parole and Probation arrest warrant. Dawn M. McNay age 39 of Ely was arrested on an Ely Municipal Court warrant.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual who was taken to E.R. by ambulance.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a possible drunk driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that a family member was causing a disturbance bothering everyone in the home. The individual was contacted and advised to keep the peace. Officers were later called back to the residence, due to more problems. The individual left the home to stay with friends.

Report of a fight — Officer received a report of a fight that was occurring at a local business. Officer contacted the parties involved who blamed each other for causing the fight. One of the parties involved had thrown a beer bottle at a vehicle causing damage. He was issued a citation for injury to property.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a juvenile problem — Reporting party stated that two juvenile boys have been hitting her juvenile son. Officer is attempting to contact the juveniles involved.

AUGUST 15

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that while giving a person a ride home the person wanted to go to his place of work, which was closed and obtain some property. The reporting party dropped the person off and left the area. The owner of the business will be contacted and advised of the problem.

Report of a barking dog — Reporting party stated that a dog was barking inside a local motel room. The owner of the dog was located and advised of the problem.

Report of a dog bite — Reporting party stated that their dog had bitten their child. The child was taken to E.R. for medical attention.

Report of a dog left inside a vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer contacted the individual and advised him to stay off the train tracks.

Report of a suspicious subject — Reporting party stated that he observed an individual attempting to gain access to a home. The home was checked and found to be secured. The individual was not located.

Report of a disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that it was a verbal argument. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a hit and run accident — Officer received a report of an individual who had struck several mail boxes with his vehicle and then fled the scene. Officer located the individual and identified him as Jerry E. Loghry age 56 of Ely. Loghry was arrested for hit and run property damage, improper turn at intersection, failure to report accident, obstructing a police officer and injury to property.

Report of threats — Officer attempted to contact the reporting party, but he got no response.

Report of a welfare check — The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of an accident — Lyle Lyman of McGill was operating a vehicle pulling into a parked position. As he did so he struck a parked vehicle belonging to Joshua Nicholes of Ely.  An accident report was completed.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that during a traffic stop Michiela M. Medina age 26 of Ely and Vincent R. Bibel age 35 of Ely were arrested. Medina was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous drug, under the influence of a controlled substance, transporting a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Bibel was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous drug, under the influence of a controlled substance, transporting a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving suspended, and D.U.I.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a hit and run accident — Officer received a report of a vehicle that had struck a parked camper trailer and a retaining wall. The operator of the vehicle and the passenger fled the scene on foot. Officer located the two individuals hiding in some nearby shrubbery The operator of the vehicle was identified as Nicholas W. Burdick age 22 of Ely. He was arrested for improper turn at intersection, hit and run property damage, obstructing a police officer and D.U.I.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer contacted the individual and identified him as Tomas A. Rodarte age 29 of Ely. During the officers investigation Rodarte was arrested for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and under the influence of a controlled substance.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officers received a report of a large group of juveniles causing a disturbance. The area was patrolled, but the juveniles were not located.

Report of a dead deer in the roadway — The deer was removed.

Report of an accident — Officers received a report of a vehicle that had struck a cow. Officers assisted the Nevada Highway Patrol with the accident.

Report of a citizen assist — Officer assisted an elderly female who had fallen from her bed.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into his building and damaged several windows. The incident was documented.

Report of a domestic battery — Reporting party stated that he resided with an individual and that the individual had battered him with a fence post. During the officers investigation Daniel Blackhorse-Smith age 61 of Ely was arrested. Blackhorse – Smith was arrested for domestic battery and battery with a deadly weapon.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of an individual who was causing a disturbance at a local bar. Officer contacted the individual and he was trespassed from the establishment.

Report of stolen property — Reporting party stated that he bought a lawn mower from an individual and he recently found out that the lawn mower was stolen. Investigation continues.

Report of child abuse — Officer received a report of a child that had an injury to his arm. Officer is investigating the circumstances on how the injury occurred.

Report of a domestic battery — Officer received a report of an individual who had been battered. Officer contacted the individual who is reluctant to provide information on how she obtained her injury. Investigation continues.

Report of a bad check — Reporting party stated that he received a check for payment of services. When he attempted to cash the check the bank returned it due to insufficient funds. The check was turned over to the City Attorney for collections.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. The parties separated for the day and were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that while his vehicle was parked at his place of work someone entered into it and stole several knives. The incident was documented.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that someone had gained access to his banking account and made several purchases. A report was completed and his bank was notified.

Report of a theft — Officer reported that several juveniles had broken into the building at the BMX Track. The juveniles had removed several items. The juveniles were detained and later released to their parents. A report was sent to Juvenile probation.
