The holiday season is upon us. In light of recent happening in our community, this season holds even more reason to come together and make this a very special time. There are so many ways to be involved, to show pride in our community and support for those who need it most. Here is a list of some of the activities planned for this year.
Mt. Wheeler Power is conducting their Santa’s Elves program. This year they are accepting toys for children age new born through 10 years old. Please drop off your unwrapped gift at their office, 1600 Great Basin Blvd. by December 4th.
The Community Christmas Committee would like to invite service clubs and organizations to participate in our Christmas card program. Not just a card off the shelf, but one designed and painted on a sheet of plywood no larger than 4’ X 5’. These cards will be on display in the County Park beginning November 27th through the holiday season. We are limited to 24 spaces, so if you are interested please contact the Bristlecone Convention Center at 775-289-3720 or come by and see us at 150 Sixth Street. The cards and the Community Christmas Tree will be lit on November 27th at 6 p.m. after the 2nd Annual Christmas Walk which begins at 4 p.m. at the Sculpture Park.
The Sights, Sounds and Smells of Christmas will be taking place at the Bristlecone Convention Center again this year. The convention center will be open to the public Friday, November 27th from 1 until 7 p.m.. Saturday November 28th will be the Annual Holiday Fashion Show featuring clothing from 13 different local merchants. All proceeds from the fashion show will go to the (C.A.C.H.) Committee Against Child Hunger’s backpack program. The Festival of Trees will be open again November 30th through December 3rd 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 4 the doors will be open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then will reopen at 6 p.m. for the auction and live entertainment by the Doug Leahy Family. Tickets for the final night auction and entertainment will go on sale on Nov. 16 at the Bristlecone Convention Center and are $20 each.
The Heritage Festival is planned for December 12th at the Ely Elks Lodge. We are looking for people to talk about and demonstrate an ethnic food. If you would like to be involved in this event, please contact Wayne Cameron at the Chamber office at 775-289-8877.
We look forward to your support in these projects as we work to make the holidays a more magical time for everyone.
