Joe Ciscar came to the United States in 1966 as a 19 year old sheep herder. Alongside his brother Javier, Joe worked his way up from the fields of sheep to other businesses and in 1993 opened up the Cruise-In Car Wash in Ely. For Ciscar, opening the car wash back then was just about looking for an opportunity and taking it.

“The reason I built the car wash was because there was a need for one back in those days. Before it, there was only two tiny little ones in town,” Ciscar said.

Since then, the entrepreneur has gone on to expand his business to several other smaller car wash stations around town as well as maintaining some rental units. But none of his other businesses have been as meaningful to the Spaniard as the one that bears a mural of his father back in Spain on the farm he grew up on.

“This has been one of the best businesses I’ve ever done. I built it myself, my father is painted on the side of it. I’ve been lucky and blessed by God to have been as successful as I have for so many years,” Ciscar continued.

But the time has come for the owner and founder of Cruise-In Car Wash to begin to settle down as he nears 70 years old. Ciscar sold the car wash to Luis Tristan on Wednesday, leaving behind his many years working at the business to start his retirement in Mexico.

“It’s hard for me to walk away from this after working on it for so many years, but I’m also happy that I’ve found someone who will continue to run the business well and keep on all the employees,” Ciscar said of the wash’s new owner Tristan.

Ciscar said that as he leaves Ely, he would like to thank everyone that has patronized his business over the years and helped him make it a success.

An entrepreneur himself, Tristan said that he is excited to continue on Ciscar’s strong standard of customer service at the car wash.

“There won’t be a drop off. Customers who come in to use the wash won’t notice a difference. I’m excited to be able to take over and retain all the employees and keep things going well,” Tristan said.

The new owner also rents apartments in the city. His wife Juliet Noyes runs the “This & That” store in town.

Cruise In Car Wash is located at 1603 Aultman St. For more information on the business, including hours of operation, call 775-289-6262.
