The White Pine Tourism and Recreation Board is looking for sculptors for the Ice Sculpture Competition of this year’s Fire and Ice Festival.
After a canceled event last year due to inadequate ice at Cave Lake State Park, local anticipation is high. The past week’s spate of snowfall and cold temperatures should easily deliver enough ice for a creative competition. Entry forms are due at the Bristlecone Convention Center Friday, Jan. 15.
The festival starts on Friday, Jan. 15, when sculptors arrive early to start their work and lasts until Sunday, Jan. 17. Ice bowling, ice golf, skating and fishing will be held all weekend. At 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, Nevada Northern Railway’s Fireworks Express will run on the Keystone Route. Its locomotive, Engine 93, will also be celebrating its 107th birthday.
At 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, registration for the 2nd annual ice horseshoe tournament will open at a cost of $10 per two-man team. Play will begin at 11:00 a.m. Preregistration is available at the White Pine Chamber of Commerce.
Forms, regulations, instructions, directions, photos and video are available at on the Fire and Ice page at www.elynevada.net.
