Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

July 5

Report of fireworks — Officer patrolled the area and located several fireworks laying near the roadway. The culprits that were discharging the fireworks had fled the area. The fireworks were collected and destroyed.

Report of a welfare check —The individual was located and assisted with transportation to his home.

Report of an accident — John Parry of Ely reported that someone had struck his vehicle, causing damage. The striking vehicle had fled the scene. A report was completed.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that she was hanging out with friends during the night and she thinks one of them might have drugged her. During the officers’ investigation, Nicole Carson,27 of Ely, was arrested for violation of release.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer received a report of an individual who was entering into people’s cars and loitering around a residence. Officer reported that during his investigation he observed where the residence had been entered and property removed. The suspect was located in the area with items taken from the home. He was identified as Richard Cooper, 29 of Ruth. Cooper was arrested for burglary, grand larceny, petty larceny, injury to property and possession of a dangerous drug.

Report of a found item — Reporting party located a motorcycle helmet. The helmet was collected and placed into lost and found.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party received a phone call and the caller claimed that a family member of the reporting party had been injured and needed money sent so they could obtain medical treatment. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to discontinue any contact with the caller.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Stacy A. Colville, 51, of Ely, was arrested for driving revoked, expired license plate and under the influence of a controlled substance.

Report of a stolen vehicle — Reporting party stated that yesterday he noticed that someone had taken his vehicle. The reporting party located his vehicle today parked in a local parking lot. The vehicle had sustained some damage. The incident was documented.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a family member had died and someone had entered into the home and removed some items. The reporting party located some of the items missing and believes that a family member was responsible for the thefts. Investigation continues.

Report of an accident — Reporting party stated that he was traveling on Great Basin Blvd. when a vehicle pulled out from a private driveway striking his vehicle. Both parties involved had left the scene and gave conflicting statements on what had occurred. The incident was documented.

Report of a reckless driver — The report was given to the Ely BLM Ranger

Report of animals on the roadway —Officer received a report of sheep being on the roadway. The owner of the sheep was contacted and advised of the problem.

Report of a reckless driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a welfare check — The individuals were contacted and were fine.

Report of an accident — Reporting party stated that he had ran over a deer on Aultman Street. The deer died due to injuries and it was removed from the scene.  No damage was reported to the striking vehicle.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. The parties proceeded to work out their problems in a peaceful manner and left the area.

Report of an accident — Michelle L. Spear, of Ruth, was operating a vehicle at the Duck Pond. She attempted to apply the brakes to the vehicle, but accidently applied the gas pedal. The vehicle struck the fence and almost entered into the duck pond. An accident report was completed.

Report of a possible prowler — The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

Report of a stolen vehicle — Reporting party stated that someone had removed his motorcycle from his shed. Investigation continues.

JULY 6

Report of a domestic battery — Officer received a report of a domestic battery that had taken place. During the officers’ investigation, Caitlyn Stanton, 19, of Ely, was arrested for domestic battery. She is accused of battering her boyfriend.

Report of a stolen vehicle — Officer received a report of a stolen vehicle. During the officers investigation it was determined that the city of Ely had the vehicle removed.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer received a report of a suspicious subject claiming to be doing work for a local business. Officer contacted the local business who confirmed he was doing work for them.

Report of an arrest — During follow up investigation in reference the theft of a motorcycle, officers arrested Foster R. Jones, 19, of Ely. Jones was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and probation violation. The stolen motorcycle was recovered and released back to the owner.

Report of threats — Reporting party stated that he had heard through a third party that an individual was making threats to harm a person. The incident was documented.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer contacted the person and reported that he was walking to his home. No problems were located.

Report of a problem with a subject  — Reporting party stated that he had recently moved out of a home and his ex-roommate was accusing him of stealing some property. Both parties involved were contacted and advised not to have contact with each other.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that a gun had been stolen from her residence. Investigation continues.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen a bike from her yard. The incident was documented.

JULY 7 

Report of a problem with a subject —The reporting party claimed a man threw a phone at him during an argument. Both parties were advised to stay away from each other.

Report of an accident — An unattended trailer rolled down a hill and stopped near a fence. No damage to any property.

Report of a hit and run — The reporting party claimed someone struck his vehicle. A report was completed.

Report of a theft — The deputy spoke to Seth Moore, 18, of Ely, who admitted to stealing a firearm from a home. Moore was arrested without incident.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claimed another subject was following her and tailgating her. A report was completed.

Report of a problem with a subject —The reporting party asked a subject with a dog to leave the dog outside the business.  The subject left after law enforcement arrived.

Report of a juvenile problem — The reporting party believed three juveniles were attempting to sell drugs to other juveniles. It was discovered none of the juveniles were in possession of narcotics, and all three denied trying to sell drugs.

Report of a reckless driver — Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

Report of an intoxicated pedestrian  — The subject was located and was not intoxicated.

Report of a domestic disturbance —The parties were contacted and it was discovered they were only arguing. Both agreed to separate for the night.

Report of harassment — The reporting party claimed several other juveniles were harassing him. The juveniles were contacted and advised to leave the reporting party alone.

Report of a disturbance — The area was checked and no disturbance was found.

Report of a disturbance — The area was checked, but no disturbance was found. The reporting party, identified as Gary Nelson, 58, of Ely, was arrested on a Justice Court warrant.

Report of suspicious circumstances  — Reporting party stated that he could hear people calling his name outside his home. Officer patrolled the area and reported no one was located.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had broken a window on his vehicle. The incident was documented.

Report of a civil problem — Officer contacted the parties involved who had a disagreement on where their property lines end and begin. They were advised to contact an attorney to work out the situation.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Britney Lewis, 24, of Ely, was arrested on an Ely Justice Court warrant.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Jeffery R. Signor, 63, of Ely, was arrested for failure to yield right of way, driving on right side required, open container of alcohol in vehicle, and D.U.I.

Report of a dog at large — The dog was captured and taken to the Ely Dog Pound.

Report of a possible drunk driver — The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

Report of a possible drunk driver —Officer contacted the operator of the vehicles and reported that he was not intoxicated. No other problems were reported.

Report of a noise disturbance — Officer received a report of a group of people causing a noise disturbance at a local park. The individuals were contacted and advised to keep the peace.

Report of a noise disturbance — Reporting party stated that he could here noises in his backyard. The backyard was checked and no problems were located.

JULY 9 

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Leonard L. Mathews, 33, of Ely, was arrested for driving suspended.

Report of a welfare check — The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of a suspicious ATV — The area was patrolled, but the ATV was not located.

Report of an accident — Officer received a report of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian. Officer reported that Gerald E. Suchan of Preston, Colo. was operating a vehicle traveling on Great Basin Blvd. He failed to yield to a pedestrian identified as Raymond C. Lane of Battle Mountain, Nev. Suchan’s vehicle struck Lane causing him injury. Lane was transported to E.R. by ambulance. Suchan was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Report of a noise disturbance — Officer received a report of a large gathering of people who were being noisy and playing very loud music. Officer contacted the responsible parties involved and advised they had permission from the Forest Service to have their party and continue with their family gathering.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that someone had opened her gate and garage door. The area was checked and no one was located.

JULY 10 

Report of a welfare check — Officer received a report of a woman laying on her front yard crying. When officers arrived they located a female who was intoxicated and was sleeping in her front yard. Officers attempted to wake her, but were unsuccessful. An ambulance was requested and the E.M.T.’S were able to wake the female. She refused medical assistance.

Report of fireworks — The area was patrolled, but the fireworks were not located.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer received a report of an individual waving people over with a flashlight. The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument. The parties decided to separate for the night.

Report of found drug paraphernalia   Reporting party located a pipe used to ingest a controlled substances near his home. The item was collected and destroyed.

Report of a dog at large — Officer reported that the owner was contacted and issued a citation for dog at large.

Report of a problem with a subject —  Reporting party stated that an individual came into her place of business and advised her he wanted to take his own life. Officer contacted the individual who he attempted to punch. The individual was restrained, but continued to fight with the deputies involved. The individual was identified as Walter R. Kennedy, 32, of Ely. Kennedy was arrested for battery on a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, battery by a prisoner, and under the influence of a controlled substance.

Report of a lost child — Reporting party stated that they had located a small child walking down the roadway. Officer reported that the child was outside her home being watched by an older sibling when she left the area. The mother of the child was contacted and advised to have adult supervision present when the child is playing outside.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that he allowed an individual to live at his home. He stated that he recently had the person move out, but he had left some of his property there. The reporting party wanted the property removed. He was advised it was a civil problem and contact the owner to have the items removed.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that someone had scratched her car. Officer reported that during his investigation it was determined the car had been struck by a shopping cart.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had stolen a support pole for a banner. The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a snake — Reporting party stated that a snake was located near the theater. Officer located the snake and disposed of it.

Report of a possible child abuse — Reporting party stated that when her child returned home from visiting a family member, she had a strange mark on her neck. During the officers investigation it was determined the mark was caused from a toy.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle who had ran out of gas. A tow truck was already on its way for assistance.

Report of a welfare check — Officer contacted the individual who had stopped his vehicle to take pictures.
