White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine Sheriff’s Office for July 19-25. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

July 19

Report of a fraud —   The reporting party claimed someone stole her wallet and used her debit card. The reporting party later located her wallet and identified the person who used her card, but did not want to pursue charges.

Report of a suspicious vehicle — The vehicle checked okay.

Report of an abandoned vehicle — The vehicle was removed by a tow company.

Report of a stolen vehicle — The reporting party claimed an acquaintance had her vehicle and wouldn’t return it. The vehicle was located and the alleged suspect claimed he thought the vehicle was still owned by the previous owner, who had allowed him to use it in the past. A report will be submitted to the DA for possible prosecution.

Report of a problem with a subject — Two subjects got into an argument over prior issues. Both were advised to stay away from each other.

Report of a domestic disturbance — When officers arrived they discovered a subject was upset over losing his job and he wanted to hurt himself. The subject was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

JULY 20

Report of a problem with a subject —  Officer received a report of an intoxicated person sleeping in a local park. The individual was contacted and advised to return to his motel room to sleep.

Report of an arrest — Officer reported that Tyler Varney, 22, of Ruth, was arrested on an Ely Justice Court warrant.

Report of a problem with a subject —Reporting party stated that he had heard a rumor about an individual making threats toward motorcycle racers. The individual was contacted who denied the allegation.

Report of a problem with a subject — Animal Control reported that he needed to take a dog into the dog pound for observation. The dog was collected and taken to the pound.

Report of a found phone — Reporting party stated that he had located a phone plugged into an outlet on his building. The phone was collected and placed into lost and found.

Report of a violation of a protective order — Officer received a report of an individual who had violated a protective order. During the officer’s investigation, Leah Merrill, 36 of San Tan Valley, Ariz., was arrested. She is accused of violating an extended protective order.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had entered into his trailer and stole his medication. A report was completed.

Report of an injured deer — Officer observed the deer and reported that it did have a limp, but it was able to move around freely.

Report of a stolen vehicle — Reporting party stated that he had gotten into a verbal argument with his girlfriend. The reporting party stated that she then took his vehicle without permission and left the area. Investigation continues.

Report of a dog at large — The dog was captured and taken to the Ely dog pound.

Report of a barking dog — Officer reported that the owner of the dogs was not at home. Contact with the owner will be made at a later date.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party was concerned about a store clerk that appeared to be nervous when she was waiting on several customers. The incident was investigated, but no problems were located.

Report of a suspicious subject — Officer contacted the individual who was preparing work for the next day.

Report of an alarm —  False alarm.

JULY 21

Report of an accident — Reporting party stated that an individual had backed into his trailer. When officers arrived, the reporting party had made a civil agreement with the individual who was operating the vehicle for repairs. A report was completed.

Report of a domestic battery — Reporting party stated that she had been battered seven months ago by her ex-boyfriend. The incident was documented.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual keeps driving by her home and when he sees her, he makes rude comments. The reporting party was advised to obtain a harassment order.

Report of a civil problem — Reporting party stated that he hired an individual to pick up an item for him in another city. The reporting party had paid the individual in advance. Officer contacted the individual who was going to return the money, due to he didn’t want the job.

Report of a juvenile problem — Officer received a report of a juvenile who was threatening to harm herself. She was taken to E.R. for medical assistance

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a welfare check — The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

JULY 22

Report of a music disturbance — Officer contacted the individual who was playing her music too loud. She was advised to turn it down.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a private property accident — Rebecca Sommervold, of Ely, was operating a vehicle and was backing up. She failed to see a pole behind her and struck it with her vehicle. A report was completed.

Report of a harassment — Reporting party stated that her neighbor keeps sending her unwanted text messages. The incident was documented.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that an individual keeps driving by in their vehicle yelling at her. Reporting party stated that she doesn’t know the person. The incident was documented.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who were engaged in a verbal argument. They were advised to keep the peace.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that while he was staying at a local motel, someone stole his GPS from his room. Investigation continues.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of an accident — Sheila Lewis, of Ely, was operating a vehicle traveling on Ogden Ave. As she passed by a parked vehicle belonging to Steven Collett of Ely, she struck the mirror to his vehicle. A report was completed.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer contacted the individual who needed medical attention. He was taken to the E.R.

JULY 23

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a domestic disturbance — Officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument. The parties stated that they had reconciled and no further problems were reported.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend had cut the tires on his vehicle. Investigation continues.

Report of a possible drunk driver — Officer located the vehicle, which was parked. He contacted the driver and advised him of the complaint.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that he was contacted by an individual over the phone who advised him his company owed him money. The reporting party allowed access to his banking account online to the caller. The caller would then transfer money from one account to another that belonged to the reporting party indicating he was making the deposit. The caller would then tell the reporting party that he accidently deposited too much money and have the reporting party withdraw the amount and send it to him by Western Union. This took place several times. The reporting party then discovered that no deposits were taking place and that he was sending the caller money out of his own account. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and the money would not be recovered due to it being sent out of the country.

Report of a juvenile problem —  Reporting party stated that several juveniles were using profanity and yelling in the area. The area was patrolled but the juveniles were gone.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and advised him of the complaint. He denied the allegation.

Report of an accident — Officer received a report of a one vehicle accident located on County Road # 3 or Elko Hamilton Stage Road. Officer reported that Juan Carillo-Preciado Jr was operating a vehicle traveling northbound when he over-corrected entering into a turn, which caused his vehicle to roll. An accident report was completed.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a dog problem — Officer received a report of a dog that had been hit by a car. The area was patrolled, but the dog was not located.

Report of a dog problem —Officer received a report of a dog that was tied to a pay telephone booth. Officer collected the dog and it was taken to the dog pound.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of a harassment — Reporting party stated that an individual had come into her place of work and took a picture of her. The individual told her he was going to put it online. The area was patrolled, but the individual was not located.

Report of a welfare check — The individual was contacted and was fine.

Report of animal abuse — Reporting party advised that her neighbor doesn’t care for his dog. The report will be forwarded to Animal Control.

JULY 24

Report of fireworks — Officer patrolled the area but no fireworks were located. The officer did locate loud music coming from a residence. The occupant of the home was contacted and advised to turn the music down.

Report of a citizen assist — Officer assisted an elderly male who had fallen out of bed and needed assistance. He was assisted back into bed.

Report of a robbery — Officer received a report of an armed robbery that had taken place at a local gas station in McGill. Officer reported that during his investigation a suspect was identified as Khristopher Nicholson, 18, of Ely. Nicholson was arrested and is accused of robbery with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon to commit robbery, aiming a firearm at a person, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of stolen property. Nicholson is accused of entering into the gas station, aiming a firearm at the gas station clerk and demanding money. He is accused of hitting the clerk with the firearm. He is also accused of possession the firearm which had been stolen from a local Ely residence. Investigation into the incident continues.

Report of property damage — Reporting party stated that an individual at a local motel had damaged the room he had stayed in. A report was completed.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that someone had entered their home and stole a firearm Investigation continues.

Report of an abandoned vehicle  —The report was given to the Ely BLM Ranger.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that while she was at work, someone stole her eyeglasses. A report was completed.

Report of a lost horse — Reporting party stated that an employee of his had lost his horse. The horse was reported missing in the area of behind McGill.

Report of a problem with a subject — Reporting party stated that she had her grandson for a visit and that the mother of the child was upset due to it was her week for visitations. The mother was coming to Ely to pick up the child. The incident was documented.

Report of a possible drunk driver  — The vehicle was located parked and unoccupied.

Report of a prowler — Officer contacted the individual who was looking at places to rent. No other problems were located.

JULY 25

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that someone had gained access to his credit on his PlayStation network account and had made several charges. Investigation continues.

Report of a problem with a subject — Officer received a report of several individuals selling items without a city business license. The area was patrolled, but they were not located.

Report of a theft — Reporting party stated that he rented his home to an individual and when she moved out, she took several things from the home. During the officer’s investigation, it was determined to be a civil problem.

Report of a civil problem — Reporting party stated that an individual had not paid his rent on a motel room he was living in so he was evicting him. The incident was documented.

Report of an alarm — False alarm.

Report of a lost wallet — Reporting party sated that he had lost his wallet near Sunny Side. A report was completed.

Report of a fraud — Reporting party stated that his ex-girlfriend had opened up an online Social Security account using his information. He was directed to report it to the Social Security Office. The ex-girlfriend lives in another state and the crime had occurred in another jurisdiction. A report was completed.

Report of suspicious circumstances — Reporting party stated that she observed several people looking in her windows at her apartment. She then observed someone had placed a note on her door, reference problems with children in the area. The incident was documented.

Report of a reckless driver — Officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and he was issued a citation for reckless driving.
