Margaret Mary (“Margie”) Wines

Margaret Mary (“Margie”) Wines, 87, longtime resident of Ruby Valley, Nevada, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on May 19, 2017. Margie was born on June 27, 1929, to Guy Sr. and Angie Aguirre in Palisades, NV. Margie was an Elko High School graduate. She always enjoyed helping her Uncle Pio and Aunt Amy Aguirre on the Wild Horse Ranch, and eventually fell in love and married into a ranching family. She met her husband Calvin S. Wines while working as a clerk at Elko General Merchandise. The two were married on November 8, 1947.

Calvin and Margie enjoyed a happy 47 years together, and spent all of their married life working side by side in Ruby Valley. Not only was Margie a hayhand, irrigator, and cowboy, but she was also the best darn cook around. She could put together the most fabulous meal after working outside all morning. One of Margie’s favorite times of the year was when she could host the branding crew. Not only was ranching her life, but so was rodeo. Calvin loved calf roping and team roping, and she would go to all of the rodeos in Ruby Valley, Wells, Elko, Carlin, Montello, and Starr Valley to watch him. Her life of rodeo went on with her six children who became very involved in High School Rodeo with Calvin serving as the program’s director. Margie also spent many years working in the Racing Secretary Office during the Elko County Fair.

Margie will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brothers Hank, Albert (Wanda), and Frank (Louise) Aguirre; her six children Jim, Bill (Michele), Susie, Sterling (Lori), Ira (Leslie), and Sam (Karen); her eight grandchildren Justin, Jeff (Beth), Tate, Josh, Amy, Jamie, Maggie, and Jenna; and her two great-granddaughters Allison and Natalie. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin, son John Calvin, her parents Guy Sr. and Angie Aguirre, her in-laws James and Lourinda Wines, her brothers Pete, Angelo, and Guy Aguirre, and her sister Doris Barone.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to a charity of your choosing in Margie’s name. There will be a Celebration of Life on June 24, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the Buckle “D” Ranch in Ruby Valley.
