White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Oct. 16-Oct. 22 Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by the law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

OCTOBER 16

2017 REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that someone had entered into her home and stole several containers that contained a large amount of coins. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A POSSIBLE DRUNK DRIVER: City — officer located the vehicle and contacted the operator. Officer reported that no problems were located.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: Brandi Barney Rodriguez of Ely was operating a vehicle traveling on US 93 South a deer entered the roadway colliding with the vehicle she was operating. A report was completed.

 REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — officer contacted the juvenile and reported that he was fine.

REPORT OF A CIVIL PROBLEM: City — reporting party stated that he rents a home to a individual and the individual has not paid the rent. The reporting party was advised on the procedures for eviction.

REPORT OF AN ALARM: City — false alarm.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — officer reported that contact was made with the individual and reported that she was fine.

OCTOBER 17 

REPORT OF AN ALARM: City — false alarm.

REPORT OF A PARKING PROBLEM: Reporting party stated that his neighbor keeps parking his vehicle in front of his garage. Officer is attempting to contact the neighbor and advise him not to park there.

REPORT OF AN ABANDONED VEHICLE: City — officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and advised him to remove it from the street.

REPORT OF A SCAM: City — reporting party stated that her friend was contacted by an unknown person over the telephone who advised her she had won a large amount of money. The caller advised the friend to send a certain amount of money to him to collect her winnings. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and advised not to send any money.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: City — the dog was taken to the Ely Dog Pound.

REPORT OF A VIOLATION OF A PROTECTIVE ORDER: City — reporting party stated that she had a protective order against her ex-husband. She stated that her ex-husband is supposed to pay for her phone, but today the phone is not working properly. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A SUICIDAL SUBJECT: City — officer contacted the person and reported that she was taken to the E.R. for medical assistance.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: Officer took the report from the reporting party who stated that the individual was located in another county. Officer contacted the Sheriff’s Office in the proper jurisdiction and reported the incident to them.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: The area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that someone had stolen her gas can that was full of gas. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A CIVIL PROBLEM: City — reporting party stated that the father of her child didn’t pick up their child for visitations. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: City — McKenzie Shady a juvenile of Ely was operating a vehicle and backing up. She failed to see a vehicle parked next to her belonging to Luke Shady of Ely. Shady’s vehicle then struck Shady’s vehicle causing damage. A private property accident report was completed.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: Reporting party stated that his juvenile daughter had made a threat towards him. The juvenile and her parents were contacted and the incident was documented.

REPORT OF AN INJURED DEER: Officer received a report of a deer that had been struck by a vehicle. The deer was deceased and it was removed from the roadway.

OCTOBER 18  

REPORT OF AN ALARM: City — false alarm

REPORT OF A FRAUD: City — reporting party stated that her business had received what she believed to be several fraudulent checks. Officer reported that the checks were fraudulent and an investigation was already going on in another state.

REPORT OF A STOLEN VEHICLE: Officer received a report of a stolen vehicle out of the state of Utah. The vehicle was located and the operator was contacted. During the officers investigation it was determined that the incident was a miss communication between the lender of the vehicle and the operator. The vehicle was returned to the owner.

 REPORT OF AN INTOXICATED PEDESTRIAN: City — the area was patrolled, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City — officer reported that during a traffic stop on a vehicle, the operator who was identified as Gerald P. Sakura age 78 of Henderson, NV was arrested for failure to use turn signals and open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

REPORT OF A BATTERY: City — officer received a report of two students who had gotten into a fight while attending school. The juveniles were contacted and a report was completed, which will be sent to Juvenile Probation.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — officer received a report of an individual who was causing a disturbance at a local bar. Officer contacted the person who denied that he was causing any problems. Officer reported that the management only wanted him warned about disturbing the peace. The individual was advised.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS NOISE: City — officer patrolled the area and found where someone had thrown a beer bottle in the roadway.

REPORT OF FOUND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA: City — reporting party stated that a friend had stayed with her for several days. The reporting party stated that she was cleaning the room the friend stayed in and located what she believed to be drug paraphernalia. Officer reported that the items were collected and destroyed.

OCTOBER 19

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City – a patron allegedly tried to start a fight in a local tavern.  He was escorted out by management prior to law enforcement arrival.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – an intoxicated subject attempted to enter a motel room that wasn’t his.  He was escorted to a vacant room.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: It was deemed to be verbal in nature and the male half had already left the residence when deputies arrived.

REPORT OF IDENTITY THEFT: The reporting party said an unknown person opened an account under her name in a state where she never lived.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: City – As Chhayaben Arabastani, from Canada, was driving through a private parking lot, Heidi Blackeye, of Duckwater, backed into her causing minor damage.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A TRESPASSER: City – when deputies arrived, the alleged suspect was gone.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City – As Stephen Barney, of Incline Village, was driving, a deer ran into the side of his truck, causing minor damage.  The deer fled the scene and was never located.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: While on patrol, a deputy made contact with two subjects who appeared to be fighting.  Although he learned they were only arguing, he discovered one of the subjects, 21 year old Gabriella Yoel Escalante-Michelleti, of Elko, had been consuming alcohol, which was a violation of her probation.  She was later arrested for the probation violation.

REPORT OF HARASSMENT: City – the reporting party claimed her ex-husband was harassing her.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – the reporting party claimed to have been battered by her boyfriend.  The boyfriend denied battering her.  A report was completed and will be submitted to the DA’s Office for prosecution.

OCTOBER 20  

REPORT OF A GAS SKIP: City — reporting party stated that an individual had obtained fuel for his vehicle at his place of employment. The individual then left without paying. The area was patrolled, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: City — officer located the vehicle and reported that it had a flat tire. The operator was attempting to locate a repair shop.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: City — Carole Hanks of Ely was operating a vehicle when she lost control of her the vehicle she was operating. The vehicle then collided into a building. An accident report was completed.

REPORT OF A FRAUD: City — reporting party stated that an individual made a purchase at her place of business and used a credit card to pay for it. The reporting party was concerned that the person who used the card didn’t have permission to do so. The owner of the card was contacted and the use of the card was verified.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City — reporting party stated that a tire on his car was damaged. Officer inspected the tire and located a screw in it. No other problems were located.

REPORT OF FOUND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA: City — reporting party stated that his renters had moved out and when he was inspecting the house he located some drug paraphernalia. The items were collected and destroyed.

REPORT OF AN AMBULANCE ASSIST/ ARREST: City — officer reported while assisting the Ely ambulance on a medical call an individual at the scene was causing a disturbance. Officer contacted the person and identified him as Francisco J. Rosales age 23 of Ely. Rosales was arrested for obstructing a police officer and disturbing the peace.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that someone had entered into her vehicle and removed some of her property. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A SUICIDAL SUBJECT: Officer patrolled the area, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — the area was patrolled, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A DISTURBANCE: City — officer received a report of a person causing a disturbance at a local business. Officer contacted the person and identified him as Victor M Muniz-Gonzales age 18 of Ely. Muniz-Gonzales was arrested for disturbing the peace.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: Officer patrolled the area, but the juveniles were not located.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City — officer received a report of a domestic disturbance that was taking place. Officer contacted the parties involved and during his investigation arrested Aaron K. Nall age 39 of Ely. Nall was arrested for resting a police officer, injury to property and elderly abuse. He is accused of damaging a family member’s property and making threats to a person over the age of 60.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City — officer located the vehicle and contacted the operator. No problems were reported.

REPORT OF A HARASSMENT: City — reporting party stated that he received a telephone call from an unknown person. The reporting party stated that the caller made threats towards him. The incident was documented.

OCTOBER 21  

REPORT OF A SCAM: City — reporting party stated that she was contacted by a person who stated that he would send her money if she would purchase gift cards and send them back to him. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and to discontinue any contact with the person.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: Nicholas Clark of Ruth was operating a vehicle traveling on CR44 when several deer entered onto the roadway. Clark swerved to miss the deer and drove his vehicle off the roadway striking several posts. A report was completed.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: Officer contacted the person who was working on a home. No problems were located.

REPORT OF A MEDICAL CALL: City — officer received a report of a person who was in need of medical assistance. Officer patrolled the area, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT: City — reporting party stated that he parked his car in front of his home. While the vehicle was parked and unattended someone struck it with another vehicle. The striking vehicle fled the scene. A report was completed.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — officer contacted the person who was obtaining items out of her storage shed. No problems were located.

REPORT OF A CITIZEN ASSIST: Reporting party stated that his ride had dropped him off in the Ely area and had left him. He was provided assistance in obtaining a room for the night.

OCTOBER 22  

REPORT OF A PARKING VIOLATION: City — officer received a report of several vehicles that were parking on city sidewalks. The owners of the vehicles were contacted and advised to remove them.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that someone had stolen his bicycle from his yard. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City — reporting party stated that he was filling his company vehicle up with gas when he noticed that the gas was leaking out of the tank. The reporting party observed where someone had drilled a hole in the gas tank. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City — officer received a report of a domestic battery that had taken place. During the officer’s investigation Travis Purcel age 34 of Delta, UT was arrested. He was arrested for domestic battery with strangulation, child abuse, interruption of a communication device and assault with a deadly weapon. He is accused of battering his girlfriend and a child under the age of 18.

REPORT OF A TRESPASSER: Officer contacted the person and advised her that the owner of the property didn’t want her there. The person left the area.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: City — reporting party stated that his child had ran away from home. The child was located and returned home.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: Officer contacted the parent and the children and reported that they were fine.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — officer received a report of a person causing a disturbance at a local business. Officer located the person who was intoxicated and walking in roadway. The person was identified as Christopher E. Opthof age 32 of Lehi, UT.  Opthof was arrested for intoxicated person in a roadway.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City — officer reported that during a traffic stop on a vehicle the operator of the vehicle was identified as Melissa C. Rusokoff age 34 of Boise, ID. She was arrested on a Good Springs Justice Court warrant.
