White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Nov. 27-Dec. 3. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by the law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

NOVEMBER 27, 2017 

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: The reporting party believed she found dried blood on her vehicle.  The incident was documented.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: 56 year old Ely resident, Loyde Cobb, was arrested for driving  with a revoked license.

REPORT OF A THEFT: The reporting party said he bought a trailer from another person, but someone had stolen the trailer prior to him taking ownership of it.  It was later determined that the original owner had planned to sell it to a third party first, who took the trailer.  The incident was deemed civil in nature and the parties were advised they needed to work it out.

REPORT OF STOLEN PROPERTY: The reporting party claimed her roommate moved her property out of their home while she was away, and refused to return it.  Contact was made with the roommate, who agreed to return the property.

REPORT OF A BURGLARY: City – the missing property was located and the report was unfounded.

REPORT OF A NON-INJURY ACCIDENT: City – the reporting party claimed her vehicle had been struck by another vehicle.  The other vehicle had already left the area, there was no damage to the reporting party’s vehicle, and she didn’t want to file a report.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: City – Jennifer Wallace, of Ely, was backing from a parked position in a parking lot and struck an unoccupied parked vehicle.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A DISTURBANCE: City – the area was checked, but no disturbance was located.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: The reporting party claimed she was harassed by two dogs belonging to another person.  The person was contacted and said his dog did bark at the reporting party’s car, but returned when he called the dog back.

NOVEMBER 28 

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – the reporting party saw someone with a flashlight in a neighbor’s backyard.  It was discovered the person with the flashlight was the neighbor.

REPORT OF A PANIC ALARM: City – the alarm was set off accidentally.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: A vehicle was reported abandoned on a dirt road.  The vehicle was red-tagged for removal.

REPORT OF AN INTOXICATED MALE: A male was reportedly intoxicated and throwing up near a road.  The male was contacted and was not intoxicated.

REPORT OF A TRESPASSER: City – a female was trespassed from a local business by the owner.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – a vehicle was reported stolen from another county.  Deputies located the vehicle as it passed through Ely. Contact was made with the driver, identified as 43 year old Donald States, from Tonopah. States was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

REPORT OF STALKING: City – the reporting party believes an ex-boyfriend may be stalking her.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a local motel claimed a female had rented a room for one day the day before, but was now refusing to leave.  The female left when officers arrived.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a female subject was refusing to leave the hospital after treatment.  The female left when officers arrived.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: 26 year old Arizona resident Jose Meranza was arrested at his workplace on a felony warrant from another jurisdiction.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS SUBJECTS: Two people were reportedly knocking on various doors in a neighborhood.  Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate the two people.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a female subject, who was loitering, was refusing to leave a local casino, after being asked by employees.  The female left when officers arrived.

NOVEMBER 29 

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a female subject, who was loitering, was refusing to leave a business, after being asked by employees.  The female left when officers arrived.

REPORT OF AN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE: The reporting party thought a friend was contemplating suicide.  The friend was contacted and claimed to not have any self-harming thoughts.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: The reporting party claimed deer damaged his fence.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – a local business owner reported receiving a counterfeit bill for services rendered.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A TRESPASSER: City – a local business reportedly wished to trespass a former employee.  The employee could not be located.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed to see a subject loitering near a vacant house.  The area was checked, but the subject had left.

REPORT OF A FRAUD: City – the reporting party claimed a visitor to her home used her personal information to fraudulently create an account.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: City – a juvenile was reportedly battered by two other juveniles.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED: The reporting party claimed to have heard several shots fired.  The area was checked, but nothing suspicious was found.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed a former spouse stole property belonging to him.  The former spouse was contacted and said she’d return the property.

NOVEMBER 30  

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: Officer contacted the person who was sleeping in his vehicle. The person had permission from the property owner to be in the area. No problems were located.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC BATTERY: City — officer received a report of a domestic battery that had taken place. During the officers investigation Barbara Stephey age 55 of Ely was arrested. Stephey was arrested for domestic battery. She is accused of battering her spouse.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City — the area was patrolled, but the vehicle was not located.

REPORT OF COUNTERFEIT MONEY: City — officer received a report of a local bank that had obtained a counterfeit bill. The money was collected and the investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: Reporting party stated that several people are trespassing on her property. A report will be sent to the District Attorney for review.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — officer contacted the person who was metal detecting in the area. No problems were located.

REPORT OF A FIRE: City — officer contacted the person who was burning tree limbs. He was advised to extinguish the fire.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that his ex-girlfriend had stolen his coin collection. Officer contacted the ex-girlfriend who denied the allegation. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City— officer received a report of a fight that had taken place at a local casino. Officer contacted one of the parties involved who requested no law enforcement involvement. The other person involved had left the area.

DECEMBER 1 

REPORT OF A SUSPICIONS SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed a male subject was in a convenience store acting odd.  The subject was located and claimed to be passing through town, on his way to warmer climates.  The subject was trespassed from the store.

REPORT OF FRAUD: The reporting party claims to be getting repeated phone calls advising him he won the lottery.  The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A DOG PROBLEM: City – the reporting party claimed a dog was running at large and chased him.  The dog was located and a citizen’s complaint was issued to the dog owner.

REPORT OF A DOG PROBLEM: City – the reporting party claimed a dog continually barking.  The dog was located and a citizen’s complaint was issued to the dog owner.

REPORT OF FRAUD: City – the reporting party claimed an unknown subject accessed her bank account and made several unauthorized transactions.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A CIVIL PROBLEM: City – the reporting party complained about one of his renters not paying their rent.  He was advised the issue was civil.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: The reporting party believed one of her cows had been shot and killed unlawfully.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – two roommates were arguing over ownership of property in the apartment.  Both parties separated.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: The reporting party complained about seeing offensive graffiti.  Follow-up will be done with the owner of the property where the graffiti is located.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: City – the vehicle was located parked.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City – the subjects were located and claimed to have only been arguing.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and claimed to be fine.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – a deputy was attempting to assist 21 year old Washington resident Timothy Rasco in finding his motel room.  During the interaction, Rasco continued to use loud and tumultuous language after being warned not to do so.  Rasco was arrested for disturbing the peace.

DECEMBER 2 

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party, an employee at a local store, claimed a female was loitering.  The female was contacted and left without incident.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party, an employee at a local casino, claimed a male subject was sleeping in the gaming area.  The male was woken up and left without incident.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – a deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, identified as 44 year old Tabatha Dudley, from Ely.  Dudley was later arrested for driving under the influence.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: Contact was made with the parties involved and it was determined 55 year old James Richard Reeves did use force or violence against a person with whom he resides.  Reeves was arrested for the offense and for failing to register as an ex-felon. During the investigation, 49 year old Nevada resident Dannise Adair Starks interfered with the officers, and later began yelling and damaged a patrol vehicle.  Starks was arrested for injury to property, disturbing the peace, and obstructing a peace officer.

REPORT OF A HIT AND RUN: City – the reporting party claimed an unknown subject backed into her vehicle while it was parked. The striking vehicle was later located, and the driver, identified as Hugo Elizondo, of Ely, denied striking the vehicle.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and claimed to be fine.

REPORT OF A MISSING JUVENILE: The reporting party called from Clark County and believed her daughter, who was listed as missing, may be in the Ely area.  The reporting party later called back and advised the child was located in Clark County.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City – the vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – the parties were contacted and claimed to have only been arguing.

DECEMBER 3 

REPORT OF A POSSIBLE DUI: City – the reporting party claimed a male subject was driving intoxicated.  A deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.  The driver, 38 year old Ely resident Jessie Osburn, was later arrested for driving under the influence.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City – the vehicle was gone when officers arrived.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: 44 year old Johni Rae Nelson of Ely, was arrested for an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – officers arrived and based on the investigation, 49 year old Ely resident Julia Corona was arrested for battering a family member.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City – the reporting party claimed the wind blew a shed off of a lot, causing damage.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – the parties were contacted and they claimed to be only arguing.  Both separated for the night.

REPORT OF AN INTOXICATED SUBJECT: The deputy located the subject on a rural road.  The subject was escorted home.

REPORT OF A NOISE DISTURBANCE: The suspected vehicle causing the disturbance was gone when officers arrived.
