White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Jan. 1-Jan. 7 Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by the law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies.

JANUARY 1 

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City – officers discovered it was an argument and no fight had occurred.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – 28 year old Ely resident Jubal Eli Nicholes was stopped for a traffic violation.  Nicholes was later arrested for driving under the influence.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City – officers determined no fight had occurred, but two relatives were intoxicated and arguing.  Both subjects separated for the evening.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: The reporting party claimed to have struck a deer, but no damage was found on the vehicle.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – the reporting party claimed her brother battered her.  The brother was gone when officers arrived.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: A vehicle struck a wild horse on a private road in a rural area.  The driver was gone when the officer arrived.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole his debit card.  The reporting party later claimed to have located the card and didn’t want any further action taken.

REPORT OF A HIT AND RUN: City – the reporting party claimed her vehicle was parked and unoccupied in a parking lot when it was struck by another vehicle.  The other vehicle was later located and the deputy spoke to the driver, identified as 31 year old Ely resident Crystal Neale.  Neale admitted to striking the vehicle, but didn’t observe any damage.  Neale was later arrested for driving with a suspended driver’s license.

JANUARY 2 

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – the reporting party claimed to have been battered by a family member.  Contact was made with the family member, identified as 58 year old Ely resident Calvin R Peterson.  Peterson was later determined to be the dominant physical aggressor, having used force on a blood relative, and was arrested.

REPORT OF FRAUD:  The reporting party paid for a dog, via the internet, that was allegedly being sold from the Ely area.  The dog was never delivered and it was discovered to be fraudulent.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: The reporting party claimed the animal control officer was trespassing while attempting to remove an animal.  When officers arrived, there were no issues.

REPORT OF DRUGS: City – a housekeeper reported finding drugs and drug paraphernalia while cleaning a community restroom.  The drugs and paraphernalia were destroyed.

REPORT OF ARSON: City – the reporting party discovered someone had intentionally set fire to some of his property in a garage.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A HIT AND RUN: City – the reporting party claimed an unknown vehicle struck her truck while it was parked and unoccupied in a parking lot.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed there was an unwanted person in her home.  The person left when officers arrived.

REPORT OF A DISTURBANCE: The reporting party complained about neighbors causing a disturbance.  When officers arrived, no disturbance could be heard.

JANUARY 3 

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed an unwanted male subject was hanging around his home.  The subject was contacted and claimed to be looking for a friend.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and claimed to be fine.

REPORT OF ANIMAL ABUSE: City – the reporting party claimed a male was abusing his dog.  The male was contacted and denied the allegations.  The dog was present and appeared to be healthy and happy.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: The juveniles were located and advised not to ride their bikes into the street.

REPORT OF FIREWORKS: The area was checked, but the officer did not locate anyone discharging illegal fireworks.

JANUARY 4 

REPORT OF A BURGLARY: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole property from inside of his vehicle.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: City – the officer was unable to locate a vehicle driving recklessly.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subjects were contacted and appeared to be fine.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the subject left prior to law enforcement arrival.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: The reporting party believed her daughter was going to run away.  The daughter told officers she would stay home and not run away.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: The vehicle was located, but nothing was found out of the ordinary.

JANUARY 5 

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City – the reporting party claimed his door was damaged on his business because someone tried to break in.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – the reporting party claimed two subjects were in a local store, possibly shop lifting.  Contact was made with one of the subjects, identified as 23 year old Utah resident Lauren Bengochea.  Bengochea denied stealing anything, but appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.  Deputies spoke to the other subject, identified as 41 year old Utah resident Gennady Sarkisov, who was sitting in a parked vehicle outside the business.  Officers observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, and later discovered controlled substances. Both Sarkisov and Bengochea were arrested for drug charges.  Bengochea also attempted to smuggle a controlled substance into the jail after she was booked.

REPORT OF A TRESPASSER: City – the subject was gone before officers arrived.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was contacted and was fine.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject wasn’t located.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: The reporting party claimed to have been in an argument with his wife, who left prior to officers arriving.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject wasn’t located.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: The area was checked, but no recklessly driven vehicles were seen.

JANUARY 6 

REPORT OF VANDALISM: The reporting party discovered spray painting on the road and on a utility pole.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF VANDALISM: The reporting party discovered the window on their vehicle had been broken, but it was unknown how it occurred.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: The reporting party claimed an unknown subject would knock on his door, and then run away.  Additional patrols were added to the area.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – when officers arrived, everyone at the residence denied any kind of arguing or fighting.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISPUTE: City – both parties were contacted and claimed to have only been arguing.  Both subjects involved decided to separate for the night.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City – Michael Valencia, of McGill, struck a deer while driving.

JANUARY 7 

REPORT OF A BURGLARY: City – the reporting party claimed someone was in the house where he was staying.  A subject was located in the residence, but had permission from the owner.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole his daughter’s bike.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – the reporting party claimed his girlfriend left his residence and now she wasn’t answering her phone. The girlfriend was contacted and said she was in the process of breaking up and moving out from her boyfriend.
