White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for Mar. 30-April 8. Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by the law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal agencies.

MARCH 30 

REPORT OF AN ALARM: City – the building was checked and found to be secure.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole his phone.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole personal property from her vehicle.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City – Brandon Baker, of Preston, was making a left turn and failed to yield to Joseph Arndt, of McGill, striking his vehicle.  Baker was cited for failure to yield.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – contact was made with both parties who said they had been arguing.  They went their separate ways for the night.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: The subject was located and claimed to be fine.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a male subject was allegedly in an area frequented by children and was video taping them.  He was contacted and admitted to videotaping the children.  He was advised not to without the consent of the children’s parents, to which he complied.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: It was believed someone was inside a vacant home.  The residence was checked and was found to be secure.

MARCH 31 

REPORT OF A DISABLED VEHICLE: A deputy discovered a vehicle which appeared to be stuck between two trees in a rural area.  Upon checking on the occupant, he discovered the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver, identified as 51 year old Ely resident Kevin Stark, was later arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed someone stole a street sign.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A SUICIDAL SUBJECT: City – the subject was located and agreed to go to the hospital for evaluation.

REPORT OF AN ALARM: The building was checked and found to be secure.

REPORT OF A PROTECTION ORDER VIOLATION: The reporting party had been served with a protection order and claimed the applicant was texting him.  The applicant was contacted and advised not to text him.

REPORT OF HARASSMENT: City – the reporting party found a note outside her residence that she believed was threatening in nature.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and claimed to be fine.

APRIL 1 

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – a deputy observed a male sleeping in his vehicle.  When he stopped to check that he was okay, he discovered the male had been consuming alcohol.  The male, identified as 19 year old Spring Creek resident Cole Schick, was later arrested for DUI.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party claimed an unknown person stole property from her car.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – an argument ensued between brothers.  Alcohol was involved.  Both agreed to stay way from each other for the night.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City – contact was made with both parties who advised they had been arguing.  Both parties agreed to separate for the night.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: The reporting party saw someone on his property.  A report was completed.

APRIL 2 

REPORT OF A BARKING DOG: Officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised him of the complaint. The owner took the dog inside his residence to stop it from barking.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: Officer received a report of a camp trailer that had been parked in an area for some time and had a lot of garbage around it. The area was patrolled, but the trailer was not located.

REPORT OF A PARKING PROBLEM: Officer contacted the owner of the vehicle and advised them to remove it.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: City — the owner of the dog was contacted and advised to keep it contained.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — reporting party stated that an individual was not allowed to dump his garbage at the City Land Fill until he paid the appropriate fee. The individual then dumped his garbage by the front gate of the Land Fill. The individual was contacted and issued a citation for unlawful dumping.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that an employee that works at his place of business has been stealing items from the business. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that a family member had taken her prescription medication and was refusing to give them to her. The mediation was returned to the reporting party.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — reporting party stated that he is having problems with an individual over property that had been sold. The reporting party stated that he had had an argument with the individual. The parties involved gave conflicting statements on what had taken place. Both parties involved were advised to stay away from each other.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — the individual was contacted and no problems were located.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City — officer reported that the parties involved had exchanged their information and that a report was completed.

REPORT OF AN ALARM: False alarm.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: City — reporting party stated that a dog running at large had attacked his dog. The owner of the dog that was running at large was located who stated that it had escaped from his home. He was issued a warning about his dog running at large.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — the individual was contacted who stated that he was fine and he needed no assistance.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: City — officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised him to keep it contained.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: Reporting party stated that an individual had parked a trailer on his property and he does not want it there. The reporting party stated that he could have the trailer removed by a tow company.

APRIL 3 

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City — reporting party stated that she received two packages in the mail that she didn’t order. She then received a telephone call from the sender of the packages requesting personal information. The reporting party was advised it was a scam and not to give out her personal information.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — reporting party stated that her neighbor was yelling at her and her children over their dog barking. The reporting party wanted the incident documented. A report was completed.

REPORT OF AN ATL: City — officer reported that the person was located and was fine.

REPORT OF A TRAFFIC HAZARD: Officer located a vehicle that was having mechanical problems and was causing traffic to back up on the roadway. The operator of the vehicle was contacted who stated that he would pull over to let traffic pass.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City — officer contacted the operator of the vehicle and reported that no problems were located.

REPORT OF A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT: City — reporting party stated that her vehicle had been struck by another vehicle and that the operator of the striking vehicle had fled the scene. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City —reporting party stated that he seen two individuals loitering around his trailer. The area was patrolled, but no one was located.

APRIL 4 

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – 53 year old Ely resident Karen Kalis was stopped for a driving violation.  She was later arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – a male was reportedly digging holes in a public park.  He was advised not to.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the subject was reportedly being mean to his children.  It was later learned he was disciplining them for being unruly.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City – a vehicle appeared to have been abandoned on private property.  The owner was notified.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the subject was not located.

APRIL 5 

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – an agent of a local motel called to report a room had been damaged and the occupant was hiding inside.  Deputies entered the room and found a male subject who was manic.  He was later transported to the hospital by ambulance.  A report was completed and submitted to the DA’s Office for damage to property.

REPORT OF A PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENT: Edwin Shelton, of Elko, lost control of his vehicle and overturned it while driving on private property.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: The subject was located and assisted.

REPORT OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES: City – the area was checked and several children were found playing.  Nothing criminal was located.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: The reporting party claimed to have paid a local business for services rendered, but they believed the results did not equate to the amount of money paid.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party called to complain about a delivery person.  He was advised to contact the business that employs the person.

REPORT OF THEFT: City – after the investigation, it was unfounded.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City – the reporting party claimed a friend had damaged her vehicle.  She later decided she didn’t want to pursue criminal charges.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City – the vehicle was located and found to be tourists sight-seeing.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: City – the deputies responded to a child acting out of control.  He was counseled on his behavior.

REPORT OF HARASSMENT: City – the reporting party claimed a former spouse was harassing her family from another state via the interweb.  She was advised to block him on social media.

APRIL 6 

REPORT OF A BUSINESS ALARM: City – the building was checked and secured.

REPORT OF A CUSTODY PROBLEM: City – the reporting party claimed to having a disagreement with a former spouse over child visitation.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: City – the vehicle was located parked, and the occupants were warned about their driving.

REPORT OF A PUBLIC NUISANCE: City – the reporting party complained about a neighbor’s dog getting into her garbage.  The neighbor was contacted and cleaned up the mess.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City – Jaden Robertson, of Ely, failed to yield the right of way and struck Linda Bellander, also of Ely.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a male claimed to have gotten into an argument with another man, and the man pushed him.  Based on witness accounts, a citizen’s complaint was signed by the victim and issued to the alleged suspect.

APRIL 7 

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed to have a disagreement with a neighbor over property boundaries.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the subject could not be located.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – 23 year old Ely resident, Taylor Draper, was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

REPORT OF A GAS SKIP: City – the suspect allegedly pumped gas and then left without paying.  Deputies were unable to locate the suspect.

REPORT OF A VIOLATION OF A PROTECTION ORDER: City – no violation was discovered.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – 41 year old Las Vegas resident Manish Anthony Quinnie, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.  During a search incident to arrest, he was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and was fine.

REPORT OF HARASSMENT: The reporting party claimed to be getting harassing phone calls from a woman.  The woman was contacted and denied making any phone calls to the reporting party.

REPORT OF A BUSINESS ALARM: City – the building was checked and was secured.

APRIL 8 

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – while conducting a walkthrough of a local drinking establishment, a deputy discovered 20 year old Ely resident, Jordan Dade Cameron, to be consuming alcohol.  Cameron was arrested for minor in consumption, and the bartender was issued a citation for furnishing alcohol to a minor.

REPORT OF A CUSTODY PROBLEM: City – the reporting party claimed to be having an argument with a former spouse regarding child custody.  He was advised to address the issue through his attorney and court.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City – the subject was located and was fine.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City – Levi Winsryg, of Ruth, was turning and failed to yield to an oncoming truck, driven by Donald Ward of Ely.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City – the reporting party discovered her medication was missing and believed a family member was the suspect.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: Both parties claimed they were battered by the other.  A report was completed and submitted to the DA’s Office for review.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed a male subject was trespassing on someone else’s property.  It was discovered the male had the owners’ permission to be there.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: Lynette Boatman, of Ely, overturned her vehicle on a mountainous dirt road.  A report was completed.
