White Pine County Sheriff’s Blotter Report

Submitted by the White Pine County Sheriff’s Office for May 28-June 3 Information and spellings of names contained in the blotter are as released by the WPCSO. Information will not be withheld at the requests of persons whose names appear in the blotter or elsewhere in the newspaper that are released by the law enforcement agencies that include the WPCSO, Nevada Highway Patrol, Ely Shoshone Tribal Police and other local, state, federal agencies.

MAY 28 

REPORT OF CHILD NEGLECT: City – the report was unfounded.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the manager of a local motel claimed a patron only paid half for the room and had not returned with the other half of the money.  The patron later returned and paid full price for the room.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: The reporting party complained a neighbor had dumped water from their trailer into the roadway.  The neighbor was contacted and apologized, saying they’d do it elsewhere next time.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City – 28 year old Craig Hrivnak Pate, of Ely, was contacted in regards to a recent larceny from a store.  Pate was later arrested for the larceny, along with failure to register as a convicted felon.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City – the subject was located and identified as 46 year old Ely resident Michael Trevena.  He was later arrested for being in possession of drug paraphernalia.  Search incident to arrested revealed him to also be in possession of a controlled substance.

MAY 29 

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: A vehicle was located in a rural area, on a dirt road, that had been involved in an accident and had overturned.  No occupants were located at the time.  The driver was later located and claimed to have lost control of the vehicle.  A report was completed.

REPORT OF A VIOLATION OF A PROTECTION ORDER: The reporting party claimed a person was near her friend’s home, which was a violation of a protection order.  Upon investigating the incident, it was discovered that there was no protection order in place.

REPORT OF A PUBLIC NUISANCE: City – the reporting party complained about excessive trash at a neighbor’s home.  The owner wasn’t located, but the condition of the yard was documented.  Contact to be made with the owner.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – a male was reportedly begging for money.  The male was later located and advised not to return to the area.

REPORT OF A VIOLATION OF A PROTECTION ORDER: City – contact was made with all parties involved and no violation was found.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City – the reporting party claimed to be having issues with a local utility.  It was settled at the scene between she and the utility employee.

REPORT OF A SUICIDE ATTEMPT: City – the subject was contacted and later escorted to the hospital.

REPORT OF A NOISE DISTURBANCE: City – the occupant of the car that had allegedly been playing the loud music was warned.

REPORT OF A STOLEN VEHICLE: City – the reporting party claimed an unknown person stole her vehicle from her residence.  The investigation continues.

REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED: The reporting party, a resident in a rural area, claimed his neighbor was firing a shotgun near his residence.  The neighbor had left prior to law enforcement arrival.

REPORT OF A RECKLESS DRIVER: City – the vehicle involved was located and the driver was issued a citation.

MAY 30  

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that an ex-employee at her place of business had gained access to the washing machines and was able to bypass the pay mechanism. The ex-employee was using the machines without paying the fee required. The ex-employee was contacted and issued a citation for defrauding an inn keeper.

REPORT OF HARASSMENT: City — reporting party stated that a family member who lives in the same apartment complex as he does keeps yelling at him when she sees him. The reporting party stated that the family member yells vulgar names at him. The reporting party was advised to avoid the family member.

REPORT OF A FRAUD: City — reporting party stated that she was selling several items on the Clutter and recently received a check in the mail to purchase the items. Officer reported that it was a scam and to avoid any contact with the sender of the check.

REPORT OF AN ATL: City — officer patrolled the area and was unable to locate the person. Later the officer was informed that the person was located in another city.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City — officer received a report of stolen vehicle that had been taken out of Lincoln County. Officer located the vehicle and identified the operator as Jody Riskowski age 37 of Kearney, NE. Riskowski was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

REPORT OF A POSSIBLE SEXUAL ASSAULT: City — officer received a report of a sexual assault that had taken place with a minor. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City — officer contacted the parties involved who had engaged in a verbal argument over child custody. The parties involved were advised to keep the peace.

REPORT OF A CIVIL PROBLEM: City — reporting party stated that he had placed a security deposit down on a trailer he wanted to rent. The reporting party stated that he no longer wanted to rent the trailer and wanted his deposit back. The reporting party was advised it was a civil problem and to address the citation in small claims court.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City — officer reported that Misti D. Paez age 34 of Ely was arrested for convicted person failure to register address.

New bookings: Jody Riskowski / Possession of a stolen vehicle / Bail $10,000. Misti D. Paez / Convicted person failure to register address / Bail $355.

MAY 31 

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — officer contacted the person who stated that he was fine and he requested no assistance.

REPORT OF THREATS: Reporting party stated that she had heard through a third party that an indidvual had made threats towards her. The incident was documented and she was advised to obtain a protective order.

REPORT OF AN AGENCY ASSIST: City — officer assisted the Brand Inspector on a call reference animal abuse. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City — Vickie Paez of Ely was operating a vehicle traveling on Great Basin Blvd. She entered into a turn lane and failed to yield to a vehicle being operated by Tricia Wagley of Ely. Paez vehicle struck Wagley’s vehicle causing an accident. Paez was issued a citation for unsafe lane change and an accident report was completed.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City — officer received a report of a fight that had occurred at a local school. The juveniles involved were contacted and a report will be sent to Juvenile Probation.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — officer received a report of an individual placing campaign material into mailboxes. The area was patrolled, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A DOG BITE: City — Officer received a report of a child that had been bitten by a dog. The reporting party stated that the child had been bitten by a dog while playing at a neighbor’s home. The child had been taken to the E.R. for medical attention. Officer reported that the dog was current on its shots. The incident was documented.

REPORT OF A JUVENILE PROBLEM: City— officer received a report of a juvenile who was acting out at school. The juvenile along with his parent were contacted and a report will be sent to Juvenile Probation.

REPORT OF AN ABANDONED VEHICLE: City — reporting party stated that a vehicle had been abandoned near his home. Officer located the owner of the vehicle who had moved it to the location for repairs.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City — officer received a report of a fight that had taken place at a local business. Officer contacted the parties involved who stated that they had been involved in a verbal argument. During the officers investigation one of the parties involved was issued a citation for harassment.

June 1  

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City — officer received a report of a juvenile who was operating a vehicle traveling on the George Town Ranch Road. The juvenile allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway causing it to strike a railroad car. An accident report was completed.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — reporting party stated that he was staying at a friend’s home and the friend had locked him out of the house. The friend was contacted who allowed the reporting party to collect his belongings and leave the area.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — reporting party stated that an individual had come to his place of work several times causing a disturbance. When officers arrived the person had left the area.

REPORT OF A COW ON THE HIGHWAY: The report was given to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City — officer received a report of a domestic battery that had taken place. During the officers investigation Shawn Sims age 21 of Ely was arrested for domestic battery. He is accused of battering a family member.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City — reporting party stated that a vehicle had stuck her work vehicle and had fled the scene. Officer contacted the operator of the striking vehicle who stated that he had stopped, but observed no damage to either vehicle. A report was completed.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS SUBJECT: City — the area was patrolled, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A POSSIBLE FORGERY: City — reporting party stated that her soon to be ex-husband had committed an act of forgery by signing her name on several documents. Investigation into the incident continues.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City — officer spoke to the reporting party about the vehicle he had seen and reported that no crime had occurred.

REPORT OF AN UNATTENDED CHILD: Officer contacted the child and parent and reported that no problems were located.

REPORT OF A THEFT: Reporting party stated that several neighborhood children and stolen his children’s bikes. The reporting party had gotten the bikes back but, wanted the incident documented. A report was completed.

REPORT OF A CIVIL PROBLEM: City — reporting party stated that he had bought an item from a person, but the item didn’t work. He made arraignments to return the item and get his money back, but was having a problem meeting with the person. The reporting party was advised it was a civil problem.

REPORT OF A NEIGHBORHOOD DISPUTE: Reporting party stated that he didn’t want his children associating with the neighbor’s children. The neighbor was contacted and advised.

REPORT OF A BATTERY: Reporting party stated that an individual was paying his rent owed when the renter started arguing with her over how much the rent was. The reporting party stated that she was then battered by the renter who forcibly took the rent money back from her. During the officers investigation the renter was identified as Brandon B. Atherton age 35 of Ely. Atherton was arrested for robbery, elder abuse and battery.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: Officer reported that the home was checked, but the person was not located.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH HORSES: City — officer received a report of two horses that were being corralled in the city limits. The owner of the horses was contacted and advised to remove them from the area.

REPORT OF A THEFT: City — reporting party stated that an individual had entered into her place of employment and had stolen several food items. The individual was contacted and issued a citation for petit larceny.

New bookings: Shawn Sims / Domestic battery / Bail $3,000. Brandon B. Atherton / Robbery, Elder abuse and battery / bail $15,000.

June 2  

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: City — officer contacted the occupants in the vehicle and reported that they were two juveniles out past the hours of curfew. The juveniles were detained and later released to their parents. A report was sent to Juvenile Probation.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: City — the dog was captured and returned to its owner.

REPORT OF A CAR SEAT VIOLATION: City — officer received a report of a child riding inside a vehicle that was not in a car seat. Officer located the vehicle which was parked. The operator of the vehicle was contacted and advised to have the child in a car seat when the vehicle is traveling.

REPORT OF A DOG AT LARGE: The dog was captured by a friend of the owner and it was returned to the owner.

REPORT OF PROPERTY DAMAGE: City —reporting party stated that an individual had rented a motel room and that the renter had damaged several items in the room. Officer is attempting to locate the renter of the room.

REPORT OF DOGS AT LARGE: The dogs were captured and returned to their owners.

REPORT OF A COW PROBLEM: Reporting party stated that serval cows were out of their enclosure. The owner of the cows was contacted and he returned them to their enclosure.

REPORT OF A MOTORCYCLE DISTURBANCE: The area was patrolled, but the motorcycles were not located.

REPORT OF A SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: Reporting party stated that a vehicle appeared to be stuck up on a mountain. Officers located the vehicle and contacted the owner who was advised to have the vehicle removed.

REPORT OF A DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE: City — officer received a report of a domestic battery that had taken place. During the officers investigation Joshua C. Muir age 25 of Ely was arrested. Muir was arrested for domestic battery and false imprisonment. He is accused of battering a person whom he is in a dating relationship with and not allowing her to leave the residence.

REPORT OF AN ACCIDENT: City — Chad Stone of Arizona was operating a vehicle traveling under an awning at a local motel. The truck struck the awning causing damage. An accident report was completed.

REPORT OF THREATS: Reporting party stated that he had received several threats on his phone from an indidvual who lives in the Ely area. The reporting party wanted the incident documented. A report was completed.

June 3  

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — officer contacted the person and reported that he was fine.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — officer received a report of a person causing a disturbance at a local store. Officer contacted the person and trespassed him for the store.

REPORT OF A PROBLEM WITH A SUBJECT: City — officer received a report of a person causing a disturbance at a local motel. The person was contacted and trespassed from the motel.

REPORT OF A WELFARE CHECK: City — officer contacted the juvenile and her guardian and reported that she was fine.

REPORT OF FOUND ITEMS: Reporting party stated that they had located several stop signs out in the mountains. The items were collected.

REPORT OF AN ARREST: City — officer reported that Michael L. Stones age 50 of Ely was arrested on a Pahranagat Valley Justice Court warrant.

REPORT OF A FIGHT: City — officer received a report of several juveniles that were involved in a fight. Officer contacted the parties involved and reported that one female juvenile had battered another. The parents of the juveniles were notified of what had taken place. A report will be sent to Juvenile Probation.

REPORT OF A BARKING DOG: City — officer contacted the owner of the dog and advised him of the complaint.
